Advice. Driver's seat bolster stitching.

I have noticed this before on German built Merc leather upholstery. The thread they use tends to fray until failure. Particularly true on the SLK. SA produced leather seats for Benz use a different yarn/thread that does not do this.

As you can see in the pics, my driver's seat stitching is starting to fray on the side bolter from brushing against it getting in & out of the car. I am using the "easy access" feature now to try & prevent making this any worse.

Any advice on preventing further deterioration would be appreciated. Bare in mind that this is a very low mileage car (13K). And yes I'm **** about things like this. Excuse the reduced resolution applied to pics.

Try wax (bee's wax) to coat the threads and keep them from fraying.

I guess there are bee's wax candles. Most candles I see are paraffin based. Bee's wax is smoother and more easily absorbed by the threads.

Check and arts and crafts store. Around here, that would be Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

I wonder if leather conditioner would help to some degree just because it's going to coat the thread a bit when it coats the leather?

I will have to keep a close eye on my SLK.
