08 CLK arm console "I" and "wrench" buttons

Just got a 08 CLK 350. I am looking for a bluetooth connection for my android. The arm rest has 2 buttons, "I" and "wrench". I am assuming this can pair with bluetooth? If not, what should i do? TIA

Sorry, you are probably $700++ away from pairing your Bluetooth phone. The "i" an wrench icon buttons are for Teleaid (a.k.a. eMbrace). Unless you find a connector that looks like this:

or this:

Then you don't have the phone option, and yes, it will cost you over $700 to add it. You may have "phone pre-wiring" which simply means you have an $10 wiring harness in the console and that's it. You still need a lot of extra parts to get a cell phone integrated. Yes, it's crazy, but this is the same company who was still installing cassette players an not standard CD players in their cars in 2004.

Thankx for the reply. Are the picks of the arm rest console? If so, I am out of luck. BTW, I have a cable with what looks like an IPhone connector. Does it get me any closer? TIA!

Those aren't pictures of the CLK, but another model. Regardless, the CLK will look very similar in terms of the connector an the "puck". I assume the iPhone connector is in the glove compartment? That's just the radio's iPod interface - no phone capabilities.

Yep, the glove box my bad. I guess I'll have a look and see if it is pre-wired. Maybe I'll get lucky and find what I need at a junk yard. Thankx for the support.

Your car will be pre-wired since it has TeleAid. But keep in mind that just means there is a $10 wiring harness in the console. If you are going to go the salvage route, you really need to do your homework to understand what you need - several parts from under the dash, in the center console, and the trunk. Besides that, the cell phone interface is very rare. Only something like 3% of vehicles were sold with it. An alternative is to bite the bullet and spend the $800 and buy the kit. I hear good things about eBay seller "cellguy85".

To see what your prewiring looks like, remove the rubber bottom on your front cupholder. There will be one torx screw under there holding in the cup holder. Remove that, then there are just two small tabs on top holding the cupholder - one in front and one in back. Just sort of squeeze it and wiggle it up. Once the cup holder is out, your console sliding cover can slide forward. Slide it forward and you will see two torx screws near the top of the back side of the black fuzzy console liner. Remove those and the fuzzy liner can be pulled forward to expose the wiring. The whole process takes less time than it took me to type this.

yeah I was going to put it on our local auction website here but I'll be able to help you out yes. It might take me a bit of time to take it out as it seems like a lot of work to get it ALL out

Oh, there's always a way to retrofit anything - it's just a matter of the cost!
