For the balance shaft, the affected engines are up to 30 468993 so the engine on this car is clear of that, but the 722.9 transmission suffered from teething problems until 2008. I can't remember fully but the problems were related to the conductor plate and the fluid pump and the transmission is electronically-complicated enough that it requires the dealer or someone with SCN-coding to reprogram the TCU.

2009 CLK550
Balance Shaft/Idler Gear

Hey All,

Just picked up my 2009 Calcite White CLK550 yesterday and I am loving it so far! I checked a VIN decoder online, but just wanted to be sure my 100k mile car doesn't have these issues. I figured this would be the best place to start!

VIN: WDBTJ72H99F269323

Thank you!

C-230 Sport Sedan
Hi Rudeney! Nice to e-meet you.. I'm thinking of buying a 2006 MB C230 Sport sedan with this VIN: WDBRF52H26A840269 this weekend. Kindly let me know if I'm in the affected range for balance shaft at your earliest convenience. Also-- if you have any insight about the longevity of this car henceforth viz engine , transmission, suspension, sensors, belts etc. kindly advise as I don't wish to get a lemon as you might understand. Look forward to your response--Thank you very much! Abs.

MY2006 - so yes. Only MY2007 needs to be checked by VIN as the first half of production is in the range, last half is not. As for longevity, while the engine may be in the range for potential balance shaft failure, it is unlikely to fail. Still, do you feel lucky and want to roll those $5000 dice? Also, the early 722.9 7-speed transmissions are more problematic. Personally, if you want a W203 C-Class, I'd look for a My2005 C240 or C320.

That's a MY2008, so no worries - it's beyond the range for potential balance shaft failure. And it does have the 722.9 transmission. Most of the transmission issues were resolved by then.

MY2008's liek yours will be beyond the balance shaft problem range. Those codes indicate bad camshaft solenoid adjusters (a.k.a. magnets). Replace all 4 of them. Parts are about $100 total, and it's a fairly simple job, though the radiator has to be drained so you can remove the oil cooler to access the left side.

No "balance shaft" worries on a MY2008. Typical leaks will be around the adjusters on the front of the heads, and the oil centrifuge and cam plugs/caps on the back of the heads. THose are all easy and cheap repairs.

That one has M273 engine #57433 which is in the range for potential timing chain idler sprocket failure. Personally, I'd not buy a car with the MIL illuminated unless I knew exactly why.

Sir Rodney....
Please check 4JGBB86E58A417829 - 2008 ML350. I am having a CEL code P0016/P017. Hoping it is just a magnet and sensor replacement. Thanks!

It's a MY2008, so it will be out of the range. But that does not mean that parts don't still fail, just not "chronically". I think you need to get a proper diagnosis and pull codes with a tool that reads MBZ-specific DTCs. Those generic ODBII codes each represent four different DTCs. Unfortunately, none of them are easy fixes.

Yes, all MY2006 V6/V8s are in the range. No need for a VIN check. Only My2007 needs to be checked by VIN/engine serial#.

Hello, can you check 4JGBB77E47A204992? 2007 ML63. I looked on a few websites and the engine code I found is 156980 60 007218. I assume it is past the impacted engines? Also, any other issues that you are aware of? Thank you. hoping to join the MB community.
