High Flow Primaries

Thought I would share this with you guys. Just swapped out my stock primaries with thunderbolt high flow 300 cell metal cats. No CEL. Car is slightly louder at startup and cruising, but definitely louder at WOT from what I can tell. My setup right now is: stock manifolds->high flow cats->no secondaries->muffler.

Would the cars ecu need to be adjusted if you swapped out all four for hi flow cats?

If you dont throw a code by changing out the primaries then no, the secondaries do not have O2 sensors before and aft. Its good to know 300 cell work with the car in stock trim, I had always wondered it they would throw a code.

I have heard the labor to do this was expensive and difficult. Did they have any issues with the install of the primaries?

Thanks to adding to our W209 tribal knowledge Togaclk55!

In addition to the questions above, I would like to know if you're going to smog your car? It would be great to know if it passes the California smog sniffer test!

Up here in BC, our smog test is just and OBD port....lol. If you dont throw a code; you pass.

So technically, I can straight pipe it with Hi-flow primes and pass.

I'll try and get a sound clip, but no guarantees

Not too sure about this, but I heard the ecu will readjust over time...

Nope, the install went pretty smooth, just had him fit the HFC between the o2 sensors. He had to cut some of the ends off the cat to make it fit. Cost me $140.

It should pass the sniffer test, there is a guy with a SL600 running this setup and he passed.
I used these 300 cell cats w/custom downpipes from my Turbos, relocated O2 sensors & bungs NO check Engine lights & recently passed stringent CA SMOG w/NO tricks on crapy 91 octane. They're surprisingly afforable & durable been on nearly (2) years now...
