i have a 2002 CLK430 convertible and i was having an issue with the release handle. yesterday after putting the top up when I went to lock the top, I pushed the button to release the handle and the entire handle assembly came off. I removed the 4 screws that hold the front inside cover and found the handle assembly was broken. I have found the whole top latch assembly on e-bay for about $250.00 used but my question is do I need to replace the entire top latch or just the handle assembly. I can't find anything on you tube. On my car it's a mechanical assembly not a hydraulic assembly.

I don't think you have a W209, since they didn't build them until 2003. You have a W208. There ARE a few links if you Google for W208
