2004 CLK320
CLK320 and C230

My friend has a 2006 C230 Sport Sedan and I was surprised that it has the same air filter as my 2004 CLK320. I went to Autohausaz and both air filters share the same part number.

I am a bit confused about the pollen filters. Part no for w209 is 203-830-09-18 and for w203, it is 203-830-01-18. However, the alternate brand, Bosch, would fit both cars.

The W209 and W203 share many parts as they are based on the same chassis. In fact, many MBZ engines share similar parts - my CLK550 and C240 both use the same oil and air filters, too. Regarding the cabin dust filters, those are the same part. MBZ part number use the 7th and 8th digits as the "revision number" so, 203-830-xx-18 is the actual part number, xx= 09 is just a later revision than xx=01.

The air filters of the w209 are inside the engine cover. How about the w203? Same procedure to change them?

On the V6 engines, yes. The 4-cylinder engines (180/230 Kompressor) have a different air cleaner housing. MBZ uses modular engines. The M112/M113 engines were pretty much the same blocks, just two extra cylinders for the V8. Of course the V6 had a balance shaft for vibration control, and different versions (2.6l, 3.2l, 3.7l, 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.5.l AMG) had different strokes and sometimes bores, but otherwise they really are the same. Even with the newer M272/M273 engines, many parts are shared, and even come from the M112/M113 parts bin. It just makes it easier for the dealers to stock parts and for the technicians to do their work when everything is familiar. It's such a pleasant experience to work on these engines because of this.
