Outside ring of speedometer flickering - any thoughts
I've searched around the forums, but haven't seen an issue like this described.
I have a 2006 CLK 350 Cabrio, and recently I noticed a brief flickering/flashing around the speedometer. It looks like it was the indicator bars for the cruise control that flickered.
It's occurred a few times at random and when I didn't have the cruise control on. There was also an incident of the ring of indicator bars flashing on and off while the cruise was engaged, and it was ongoing. I took a 10 second video, but is too large to attach - I can try to reduce the size/quality to add if it would be of use.
Has anyone else seen this, or have any ideas on what might be causing this?

I don't believe this is any sort of "normal" indicator, so it's probably a defective cluster. The cluster itself does not operate the cruse control function - it only responds to CAN bus signals coming from other components to display their status. So, it could also be that the cruise control system is sending a brief erroneous signal on the CAN bus. The systems involved are the cruise control switch, steering column module and the ECU. One other possibility is a voltage problem, and that's an easy check - 12.5v at rest, no less than 11v during cranking, and about 14v with the engine running.
