Weather Stripping Deterioration

1 Attachment(s)
I was cleaning my car the other day when I noticed some weather stripping deterioration in about 5 different spots just above the windshield. Small cracks in the rubber. It does not look bad enough to replace just yet. Maybe just open the top and apply a lot of Armorall to help keep it from getting worse? I am afraid if it gets wet it may start to leak. The whole length of the rubber is still soft and supple. Is there anything I can mend it with before it gets worse? Thanks

Don't use Amour All on the soft top seals. Use the MBZ lubricant, part number A 000 989 36 60. It is expensive - about $50 for a small vial at the dealer - but worth it. It will last you many years and eliminate all top squeaks. But before applying that, since you have some small tears, I'd use a bit of black RTV to patch them.

I would not use black RTV. It will be shiny and won't adhere that well. Use regular super glue. It will glue those back together forever. Put a small drop on a toothpick and put a tiny amount along the crack and hold together just a few seconds with your fingers. Practice pressing together before you add glue. Super glue really adheres to that rubber.

Don't use Armour All period.

The only problem I have with Super Glue is that it's not water proof.

I would just replace it once and for all. Superglue will be a visible mess.
