Hood open warning / open door alarm gone
A few seconds after starting my car the main circular display in my dashboard went red saying the front hood was open. I got out pressed down on the hood and checked it was closed. Got back in, warning was off, proceeded journey. A few seconds later the car starts beeping for a few seconds. No other problems.
The day after I checked the front hood sensor and clean out some dirt on it. No warning lights on now, even when they should be on because hood/doors/trunk are open even after starting the car. Alarm for open doors seems to be gone too.
I checked the fusebox instructions but there is no mention of any fuses for these systems.
Any ideas? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I believe you are right. The first time I had the engine running to check for the warnings I was driving very very slowly inside my garage. When I later tried it on the street driving a little faster all the warnings seemed to work when I opened the driver's door or the hood. Perhaps it was a little "black dust" that was on the hood sensor that made the warning go off in the first place. I think that was from humidity - it had been raining a little that day and I doubt that the hood sensor had ever been cleaned in the last 13 years. I have a feeling that humidity sometimes interferes with the car's electrical/electronic systems. Everything seems to be working again.

The hood sensor on my R230 does that sometimes. I'm not sure if it's humidity, dust, or if it's just slightly out of alignment. And of course it waits until I'm a mile down the 45mph highway outside my neighborhood to warn me!

How do you fix it when it happens in your car? I cleaned out the metal part of the sensor in mine and that seems to have worked but I wonder if it's just coincidence. The sensor seems pressure activated but since it is metal I wonder if the metal itself absolutely must make contact with the metal from the hood in order for the system to work properly.
