'03 W209 cigarette lighter not working
Hello,
I recently purchased an '03 CLK 500, frustratingly, I found out that the cigarette lighter doesn't work. I have replaced the fuse (47) that is responsible for cigarette lighter, it still doesn't have power. Then, I purchased a used part (whole ashtray with cigarette lighter), somehow the light on the new cigarette lighter lights up, while I still don't have any power. What gives? I have some assumptions: 1. the circuit that the cigarette lighter is on has some wiring issues 2. the "new" cigarette lighter is bad as well 3. a combination of the previous two.
Are the light and the cigarette lighter power on different circuits, even though they share just one plug?
Thank you all in advance. Have a nice one.

I take it that you do not have a volt meter.... I think the cig lighter itself is just a coil of wire which is connected between + and - 12 volts when you press it in. So you should be able to measure 12v between the side and the center of the cig lighter plug. You could also plug another device like a USB receptacle or a radar detector, etc and see if they get power. If they don't work, the volt meter will probably measure 0. But the volt meter would be needed when you remove the ashtray and check for voltage at the connector.
BTW, on the 550 the switch has to be on in order for there to be power for the cig lighter.
Also, this is the forum section for the W209 vehicles. Try posting to the W208 forum section. Someone there may have faced the same issue.

reviving this old thread; my lighter is stuck in the pushed-in position. hasn't been much of an issue for me as the receptacle at the rear of the console is actually better positioned for the curly-cord phone charger, but my car is for sale so I want to take a crack at getting it working. I haven't seen anyone else post about the lighter being stuck in, even among those that replaced fuse #47 and got theirs working again; would this seem to indicate that it's my lighter itself that's broken?
