CLK convertible 320 2005
Rear shocks top mounting location

I have just replaced front shocks springs, all discs and pads and rear anti roll bar bushes. So I thought the easiest job would be replacing the rear shocks but I cab't locate the top mounting nuts. I tried taking off some inner trim from the boot/trunk but I could still not see it. Any help would be appreciated.

in the coupe you need to pull the 'floor' out (that covers the spare tire)
Unscrew the 2 x t40 torx screws that holds down the black plastic cover where the rear seats fold down, with the silver d-rings/tie downs.
The pull the carpet off the sides, I think there are 5 black plastic clips per side

not sure if the convertible is different.

Yup I confirm. Just looked today on my own w209 CLK 320 Cabrio. Allow the top "well" to open entirely and stop there. The top of the strut is right underneath the black lining. Remove the small black plastic box you see there (2x 10mm). Pull carefully the 2 top plastic rivets/clips + unscrew the large round plastic retainer hiding behind the trunk arm. The liner can be then yanked out and "peeled" in. Uncovering the top of the strut.

This is great info! i just purchased 2 rear sachs shocks (P/N 317 345) for my cabriolet and are planning to install them over the x-mas break... there is a squeak driving me crazy! Though, I have a question... does anyone have the instructions with the torque values for the lower bolt and upper nuts? THANKS!

I read in a few posts about 20-22 ft-lbs for the top and 40-41 ft-lbs bottom. That's not much. Personally I would use some Loctite on the thread (I'm a Wrangler guy. In case of doubt, loctite it. Twice! lol). Loosening and tightening the top bolt can be a challenge. The shock absorber will spin. You need to counter the bolt by blocking the tip of the shock absorber with an adjustable spanner. I didn't remove it yet. Just loosened the bolts to see how it is. Seems an easy job.
