Installing Backup Camera in 2003 CLK 240 Elegance
Hi,
I recently installed an aftermarket sony xav ax5000 Android Auto head unit in my CLK 240. I've also got a backup camera I want to install, but this seems like a lot bigger job. I was hoping I could get tips on how to run the cables, any tricks to removing whatever trim/panels I need to, etc.

Welcome to the forum!
I installed a backup camera in my SL550. I put it in the trunk lid, next to the handle. It was not an easy job, mostly because of the fact that I had to run wire along the tubular frame of the vario roof. Since your CLK has a trunk lid that only opens one direction, this will be much easier, although it is a lot of trim panel work. If you are comfortable with that, then it won't be difficult, just time consuming. If you remove the bottom door sill place, you will find a nice channel there that goes from under dash to behind the rear seat, so that's where you will run the wire. Once you get it there, then finding a route into the trunk is easy. On the trunk, there is a plastic wiring channel already on the hinges, so just snap one of those open and add your wire. With the trunk lid liner paneling removed, you can get in there, but you will probably need to remove the panel with the handle and hard lock on it to mount the actual camera.
