I see them now. Maybe there was a forum "burp". Anyhow, unless there is some part of your car that is made of concrete, then no. Those are concrete anchors. You drill a hold, drop them in, then as you tighten the bolt it pull the lower cone-shaped part into the collar which locks against the walls of the hole to hold fast.

lol, I'm continually amazed at what I am able to forget. Being 60 is going to be a blast. OT, but did you have an opinion on 2013 SL550 vs. 2015 SL400?

You probably won't like my opinion of the R231. First of all, I have not warmed up to the body shape. The later years have a nicer looking front end, but the rear looks very "feminine" to me. I'd get one with ABC, otherwise, you might as well get an SLK (SLC) for half the price.

I'm confused; you don't like yours?? I know we're in agreement that the 2009+ front end is nicer, as the earlier ones look just like a CLK from the front, but I really do like the look of the car from all sides.

No CLK should have those parts... I have never even seen a car with those types of bolts...Used in construction only...

I have a MY2011 R230, and I really like it. It ended production for MY2012. MY2013 was the introduction of the R231. Although the profile is similar to the R230, the rear end is just not appealing to me. And the early years, the front end was odd looking. It's better now, but still not "beefy" looking like the R230.

I hate to say this, but I think MBZ is really neglecting the SL. I think they will continue to make it because of its history, but they are putting all their egg int o the AMG GT basket. Don;t get me wrong - the GT is a great car, but I really hate to see the SL playing second chair. There has even been talk of (gasp!) no "AMG" model SL! Buyers will be directed to the AMG GT instead.

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time keeping that R230/R231transition straight. And while I truly prefer the 2017 facelift, that's beyond my budget. And I feel like I like the front and rear of BOTH the 2011 and 2013 SL's, but the 2013 looks more like the current SL, especially from behind. If that's feminine to you then I like your taste in women (Baby Got Back!)

As for the SLK I fear it would feel too small....

The first tqo pics - the silver car, are of a MY20009+ facelift R230, which is what I have. The primary difference in it and prior R230's are the front end. They changed from the teardrop round headlights to the wider, more square lights. The grill is also more upright.

The other photos are of an R231. For some reason, it looks better in photos. In person, to me, it just looks too "soft". The rear has a more downward slope than the R230 that gives it a feminine look, to me.

We're basically in agreement, but I want the newest one I can afford. Like I've said before, it was 2017 (or even 2018) models that first turned my head (DRL's inside the headlamp), and I think those are even "softer". I drove the 2013 SL550 and think I could be quite happy with it for a few years.

The only thing I really like better about the R231 is the interior. It is more updated. The latest front end refresh does make it look somewhat better, but it's still not as aggressive and sporty looking as the R230, to me.
