Android 8.0 head unit installation w209

I just finished installing an Android 8.0 head unit on my 2005 CLK320. Also, I did a 3 part video series on how to install and it includes a wiring diagram. It was a learn as you go experience, but I figured I would post it here so it can help any of those thinking of doing this upgrade. Links are listed below:
Part 1:
Part 2:
Part 3:

Wow, what an ordeal lol. It started out simple enough (take off the shifter cover and a few other panels, then remove the head unit), but it quickly got complicated. I think that is probably enough to dissuade me from going with an aftermarket Android head unit. I wonder if any of the other brands have a more "plug and play" harness? Before you posted this video, I thought the Android units would come with the correct harness (since it's made specifically for Mercedes models) and it could then just be plugged in and you're done (along with a fiber optic decoder, of course).

That is really cool that you took the time to record and post the videos, though. I think it should be a huge help to others looking to upgrade.

Great videos. It is lots of work. I thought about doing it to my 2009 CLK. However, I will have a shop do it for me lol.

Thanks for the kind words. I assumed the same thing about installation, but I guess the harnesses are designed for Stripped down models sold over seas with very little fees. I plan on installing the TPMS system as well as a back-up camera next.

I hear you. I took it to a shop too once I saw the harness didn't work. But they told me they would need to bypass the factory Amp, and the steering wheel buttons wouldn't work. So I decided to take matters into my own hands..LOL

Hey Friend, Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. Especially the third video. I am in the process of installing a Android Head unit and this immediately helped. I already referenced your video on my research thread :-), feel free to check it out.

One question- do you know if you can tap into CANBUS through the green wires on the climate control? At least on my w219, there are a pair of green wires. It is my understanding these are CANBUS wires. But I did notice how you tapped into the Brown and Brown and Red wires under the passenger side dash. It was really helpful how you explained (+) and (-) identification.

Say, what did you do with your radio antenna. My kit didn't come with anything.

Thanks again and have a great day!!

LexBrett2 05-15-2019 03:43 PM

The only plug and play I have found is Dynavin, and it is $800. It is also not android, it is WINCE. I wish I had bought it though, because this job without instructions is terrible. You are correct about removing the OEM headunit- it IS hard, but ONLY the first time. The first time probably took me 2 hours. The second time maybe 10 minutes.

Marcorati 05-15-2019 04:42 PM

So once I found the CanBus wires wire terminal under the passenger dash and determined the color of the wires, I just looked for wires with that color on the OEM radio harness and tapped into those. I would tray to stay away from the Can Bus wires for the climate control. It can be that your model uses green wires instead of brown, but I guess that's why you have to try and find the Canbus terminal, to determine color.

Regarding the antenna, my unit came with an adapter. Item 5 on the image below. If you search you should be able to find it for sales online (or something similar). Actually, I would reach out to where you bought it from and ask them about it. They might sell it seperately. Attached is also the wire diagram showing how to wire it up. Good luck.

Nice! And what was the cost of all of that? Sounds like I should do this now.

The head unit I got was $591. Additional accessories are extra. Just a heads up, if you have the large clock in the instrument cluster. I haven’t figured out how to set the time with the new head unit. Not a big deal to me but it might be for others.

Hey Buddy,
My install is going terrible. I bought a Seicane head unit from china, and I cannot even get it to power on. Please see the wiring diagram below. I'm emailing the company the same diagram, so if something doesn't make sense please let me know.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...643ad208cf.jpg
IS THE REASON WHY MY UNIT IS NOT POWERING ON BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THE ACC POWER (FROM CIGARETTE LIGHER TO HARNESS, SEE ABOVE)?

I'm getting no power at all. Noticed on your diagram you have a RED (ACC) and YELLOW (BATT)power source. Could that be the problem? I only see a B+ on the Seicane wiring diagram, a constant source, and there is no place for an ACC ignition power source. Any thought would be appreciated!!

This is my project tonight, wish me luck. Any suggestions, corrections, etc. are appreciated. Have a great weekend!!

PS, when I got to the CANBUS wires on the PASSENGER side, I got a SRS and teleaid code. I saw on another thread that Teleaid and SRS are linkED, and I guess I accidently loosened the connection.

UPDATE. I tried the red ACC wire and it worked!!! She fired right up. Thanks again for making the great video and wiring disgram. It really wouldn't have been too bad of a job if the seller provided adequate/correct instructions.

I may also do a video. How did you get that cool intro and music in your video??

**update**
Canbus and fiber optic install! Now I have sound and steering wheel controls.

**update**
Some pics of my big beautiful Seicane. I still have to hook up antenna (blue wire??), backlighting (orange wire??) and dvr (usb)..

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Glad to see you figured it out. Yes, you need +12v ACC and Constant +12v for unit to work. AAC acts like a switch, turning the unit on and off. Hopefully you can clear the SRS codes. I used the canbus wires already going to the factory head unit, so I didn't have any problems.
I use a software called Pinnacle Video Studio. it allows you to do video editing, music, etc..

LexBrett2 05-21-2019 12:27 PM

Hey Buddy,
Thanks for the message. My major pain point was that Seicane emailed an incorrect wiring diagram. After watching your *great* video the second or third time, I noticed you used the Red ACC wire.

It looks like you used the (solid) orange wire for illumination, but I tried that and I am not sure it worked. I also have an auto dimming feature on the Android head unit, but I am not sure it is working since it doesn't seem get darker at night.

You used the (solid) blue wire for the radio antenna; in my case the antenna is in the trunk which is a PITA. I have not done this yet since the seller FORGOT to send the antenna adapter.

And how the heck did you cram all the wires back in the car to have the head unit sitting flush??? I guess it was just trial and error..

Have a great day!

Marcorati 05-26-2019 09:58 AM

Yes, wire management was not easy, but after some trial and error I was able to get it to fit (just barely). As far as the antenna, do you not have any antenna wires already routing to the head unit? I would try to connect to it, but you will need an adapter. Try Avin, they sell individual antenna adapter wires.

LexBrett2 -

Could you please post a link to the

Dynavin unit that is "plug and play" -

Would this unit work with a 2003 CLK500 -

I am looking to replace the stock OEM unit -

Thank-You

Follow-up question -

Is this the unit that is "plug and play"

for a 2003 W209 CLK500 -

http://www.dynavin.com/products/n7_mc2000.php

As in - take the OEM unit out - un-plug it - plug the

Dynavin unit in - put the Dynavin unit in the dash -

I would be using the existing cable / harness that

runs from the unit in the dash to the amp in the trunk -

I am not looking to use most of the features of this unit -

Just the radio / CD and the ability to play videos / music

from an external hard drive / source -

Thank-You
D.B.

Follow-up :

My 2003 W209 CLK500 has the OEM "810"

sound system -

Does this system - the "810" - require a new harness

from the dash to the trunk when installing the

Dynavin N7 - MC2000

Thank-You

Here you go, sorry for the delay. Not sure if this is the correct model but at least it will get you on the right path.Dynavin N7-MBE Radio Navigation System for Mercedes E Class 2002-2009 & CLS 2004-2010 includes MOST Adapter

That's not the correct model. The W209 model is straight on top. If you notice, the model you posted has a slight curve on the top. It's for the CLS and W211 I think.

That being said, stay away from Windows CE based units. What is this 1994?

AMGfan84 06-08-2019 05:10 PM

I have the same radio, But for some reason i have a hard time getting audio. Has worked for me 4 times. Im not sure if its a wiring issue to turn on the factory sound amp or they keep sending me bad MOST adapters. Anyone have the same issue?

AMGfan84 06-08-2019 11:08 PM

I'm about to purchase the same MOST adapter you have. I tried two from navicarplayer.com which is also where i purchased the android radio. But i only got audio a couple of times and cant get it to come back on. Do you know if the Wake up line from the factory harness behind the radio is being used to turn on the amp? great videos btw thank you.

Okay, so I assume you checked the ACC and constant 12v with a voltmeter, to make sure the have voltage. Also, you didn't mention the ground wire, but make sure you have good ground. The other thing to check is if you unplugged the fiber optic line anywhere else. For example (this happened in my case), I had unplugged the factory CD player so I could rout the USB ports to the glove box. When I did this there was no sound even with the MOST adapter. This is because the fiber optics need to run unbroken throughout the car. If you delete a device you will need to install a fiber optic Loop. One more thing, make sure the fiber optic line is not pinched or being squeezed. Hope this helps...good luck.

Just an update. I finally installed the backup camera that came with the kit. Below is the link to the installation. Sorry for the long vvideobut I wanted to add as much details as possible.

This thread is super awesome; thanks for all the time and effort. I'm still confused about the MOST adopter -- would this all work with a Sony HU?

Does the Seicane decoder have two wires or three? Their product page only shows two (like no Red ACC) to trigger power; is this incorrect? did your decoder have an ACC wire? @LexBrett2 @Marcorati
I saw you asked about the ACC wire but the update saying you got it fixed via something CANBUS on passenger side (sounded unrelated?)
