Wheels stuck fast
Has anybody got a definitive method of removing stuck wheels?
Trying to remove the wheels from my '03 W209 and they are seized solid on the spigots. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
Use a dead blow hammer with a plastic cover and use it to loosen the wheel by hitting the edge of the rim. When you remount the wheel apply a coating of never seize to prevent corrosion from seizing the wheel again. I also recommend getting discs with zinc coated hats. Some rims are more prone to seizing than others. I have found that third party rims seems to be worse. The stick ones seem to have enough clearance to limit how much they get stuck.

If you're saying the wheel is stuck to the hub ring on which the wheel rides, you can spray some WD-40 on it 2-3 times letting it sit/soak 5-10 minutes between application and it should release with normal jerks on the tire/wheel.

With the wheels on the ground, loosen the bolts by a few threads and drive the car a few feet, That usually breaks it loose.

Thanks for all the replies. Rolling backwards and forwards with the bolts loosened did the trick.
I put Coppaslip on the threads and spigots by the way. |
Congratulations in getting the wheels off. All good suggestions. Can also remove the wheel bolts and sit on the ground facing the wheel and kick the edge of the rim/tire on alternating sides until it comes off. Just did this with a high mileage vehicle where the calipers froze and spewed brake fluid everywhere, corroding/gluing things together.
