E350 motor into CLK350?
It seems that the 2006 E350 has the m272 just like my daughter's CLK350. Would it be a direct swap to put that E350 motor into her CLK350, or are there other considerations?

Subscribed. I bought another (nr 4, lol) CLK350 dirt cheap and found out the motor was started with no oil and now seized. For sheets and giggles I'll try to unseize it, but 99% it gonna run bad (if it'll ran at all ), so I'm looking for the donor. The car otherwise in great condition, so I couldn't pass it regardless of the motor condition.
P.S. Anyone got the filter housing? It was snapped off the motor that caused the oil loss.

I did some research and compared w211 e350 (272.964) and w209 clk350 (272.960) engine parts.
Seems like the engines are the same, except engine mount brackets. To be hones I was skeptical about at least lower oil pans ... but I found that they are the same part #.
Although I don't think that 2006 e350 is a good candidate for a swap since it's probably in "balance-shaft-issue" range.
P.S. I don't take any responsibility :-D

You will have to very carefully compare the position of all attached components, like alternator, A/C pump, etc. These components and their attachment brackets, can vary from model to model.
A further thing to watch, is the oil pan layout.
If you make the engine swap, you will have to use the ECU from the CLK, since it is coded with the VIN # of the CLK. The ECU from the E class will be rejected by the CLK.

DocJones, Did you follow through with the swap?
I just did this in the reverse (bought a M272 from a 2009 CLK350 and swapped out a bad balance shaft M272 from my 2006).
Can confirm it is a direct drop-in/replacement.
Things to note: the Motor mount attachments are about 1" different to the front or rear- can't remember now - not a direct swap & the Wiring Harness off of the CLK350 was the same Except for the PowerSteering Pump wire,.. had to swap out/retain my old wiring harness.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Same engine and will 100% fit so no issues there. However, the only issues I see is making everything work correctly when it comes to electronics.

Yeah electrical and connectivity plug options could be an issue for some swaps that they put these engines in.
I initially thought I had a nice sweet 1-to-1 fit on the wiring harness but, as I was nearing D-day I noticed my old engine had one little plug that the new(er) one didn't have - the plug to the power steering pump/speed sensitive steering. I guess the CLK 350 used something different.. Surprisingly, it only took about an hour to take off the old and new and swap them over. The only last thing was dropping the old ECU onto the new one.
I'll admit I was very nervous on the turn of the key/first fire of the swapped engine, but it fired up like a champ!
Things I replaced before dropping the new motor: Water Pump, water hoses , power steering pump o-ring, oil cooler gasket, transmission mount & exhaust manifold gaskets.
