Questions regarding new car purchase??
I have came across a 2001 CLK 55 AMG Brabus for what appears a very good price. It has 45,000 miles and they are asking $28k. Is this a good price.
How can I tell if its true brabus tuned benz? It does have the wheels, and the grill. Do they all have the larger brakes, and slightly altered suspension? Is there any special badging etc?
Also is there any known defects with these cars? What areas do I need to take a special look at? I am having a body man come with me to identify if its been wrecked, repainted...
What type of gas mileage can i expect with this W208 Brabus tuned CLK? Looking for general suggestions, is this a good price, just seeking knowledge about these cars? I have spent the last few days searching and haven't came up with much.

I would suspect that it is maybe just a Brabus body kit and not any kind of special tuning. Did you ask the dealer, is he suggesting that it has any special tuning?
Are you able to post a photo of it?
Davis,
p.s. Brabus or no-brabus with only forty something k miles $28k is a great deal for a CLK55!!!

2001 Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG, Navigation, Heated seats, CD, CD Changer, Power Mirrors, windows and seats, Onyx dark Blue exterior, with black leather interior, sun roof and $9,000 Brabus rims, as well as CL style grill. Car is lot ready clean with no dents dimples or dings, scratches or marks. This car could go to straight to the car show. 45,000 miles, with 75% tire tread left on the 19” Pirelli P-zeros.
Also in another conversation with the dealership I was told it was 404hp. THis is a quote from the dealer in a discussion about the differences between a highly tuned CLK 430 and this AMG.
It's all there...the front grill is called the Brabus style cl grill..all the parts are there...the beam on the bottom is not supposed to be there with this style of grill..when i bought the car I thought the same thing...I checked it out and all 144 Brabu AMG's ware the same...at least thats my understanding..if in fact you like the strip then we might be able to get one and put it on...In 2001 they made 3500 AMG's cars with 144 coming from Brabus, on the W209 body Brabus added a superchager package..on the W208 it was rims, grill supenion, and a chip..thus 404 hp..the brabus rims alone cost $9,000...

Next step, have a thorough PPI done. Then have it dynoed (to see if you're getting the advertised power). If it still meets your criteria, then pull the trigger.

dude, that's a pretty good deal, make sure you get the entire car history before purchase. I just bought mine, 02 CLK55 with 47K miles (with nav), for $31K. good luck! if this car turns out to be clean, you'll love it!

how is Brabus getting 50+ hp with just a chip? Naturally aspirated cars are notoriously hard to "chip" for big gains without other mods like manifolds, exhausts, etc. If it were blown I'd believe it, but I'm pretty skeptical of this claim unless the engine is pretty detuned coming from the factory, and if thats the case, I'd be a bit annoyed paying all that extra cash for the AMG badge for a detuned motor.

According to the Brabus website, the CLK55 tuning includes options of 400hp (5.8 liters) or 426hp (6.1 liters)....not just a simple chip.
