Just bought 18' HRE wheels what is the largest tires you can run?s
 

Just got a set of 18x9 front and 18x10 HREs for my 03 CLK55 what is the largest tire combo people have run without rubbing lowered and not lowered. I was thinking 245-40-18s in the front and 275-35-18s in the rear let me know what you think.

PS also looking to go with H&R lowering springs and Bilsteins shocks.

or is on of these ways a better way to go:
225/40/18 Front and 255/35/18 rear
or
235/40/18 Front and 265/35/18?

I have a 04 CLK 500, and i've put a 255/40/17 on the front. That is the widest I can put in the front with out rubbing.

I'm picking up some 18 inch AMG Double spoke rims this weekend, with

245/40/18 Front
275/40/18 Rear
tires on them .


I'm sure as far as aesthetics goes a 275 is the widest you want to go for looks, but i'm sure a 285 will fit with a 35 or 30 profile.

Man, this rim crazy is really getting out of control.

First it was 17s, then 18s, then 20s, then 22s.. and now, EIGHTEEN FEET? :eek:

Anyway back to the topic, I will go with 235/40 and 265/35 cos the 245 and 275 will give you bigger error (check the percentage error to be exact, I couldnt find one yet.).

What HRE series did u end up with?

Well from what i have put together 275/35/18 for the rear and 255/30/18 front

let me know how it turns out. I'm also thinking of lowering my car after the new wheels.

275 in the rear will look nice.

I'm running 235/40/18 (18x8.5) up front and 265/35/18 (18x10) in the back. It is very tight in the front, and depending on the tires I've used (Potenzas and F1 GS-D3s have been OK, but Yokos were not), at times it did rub in the front when in a full turn or when going over dips in the road at speed.

My car is lowered, with about a 2 finger gap in the front and 1 finger in the back.

There are a lot of threads in the W209 non-AMG forum about this, so I suggest you check those out - as I think if you go above the 235 and 265 mark, you will have problems unless you roll your fenders. But then again, the 55 fenders may already be rolled, and in that case, I assume you would be OK.

I see that you're from Miami... Are you coming out to the Tower Shops tonight? There's supposed to be a Mercedes meet there tonight from 6-10. I will probably come a little after 8, since I have to work a little late today.

btw, I'm running 265/30/19 on 19" wheels and I'm lowered with the H&R sport springs.

There is no way under the sun a 255 will fit in front without cracking the paint with an ultra aggressive fender roll and pressing it out a half an inch.

A w203 is very similar and to get 245/275 race tires on a W203 we had fully roll the front fenders flat -- also pulled the fender out 1/3 an inch -- (and re-spray them) and in the back we had to flare the fender out about 1/2 an inch AND do a complete roll on the lip with a dead blow mallet. We also had to do the flare job all the way forward on the lip as it was cutting tires there as well. With all that we also had to totally grind the inside flange off (where the bumper and fender meet) and we also re-located the blot holding the fender and bumper together rearwards about 2 inches.

With all this work, it barely clears the front strut tube and in the rear the tire does rub a bit on the inside and on the top of the fender it self. The rubbing is not a big deal as it just is a flat surface and those wont cut the tire like a lip.

The race tires run very large and are likely equal in size to street 255/285 fitments.

SO with that a 255 up front is just not going to happen as the distance from an OEM fender to the strut tube is not enough. You will rip the fender apart and destroy tires.

What off-sets are you running? With stock ride height it might work but if you fully compress the front axle with any steering input you will likely have body damage. Once lowered you open a whole big can of worms.

I've had a 255/40/17 on my front and it FIT, barely, but it fit.

I would like to know more about these meets i have seen your car at the Moroso meet like 4-5 months ago before i bought my 55. I would like to hear more about the modifcations you have done for performance and what really worked and where to get good work done around here. Let me know i live in Aventura.


Also i will have pictures on the car as soon as i have tires i also bought the HRE 546's in 18 in from HRE i also has a set of 540s in 19 picture above that i didnt even end up mounting on the car...

I will also have my like new 19in 65 style wheels up For Sale silver with polised lip and they also have Mich Pilot sport 2s on them 235-35-19 and 265-30-19s fronts have 80% rears have 60-65%... Best offer or would trade for stock CLK 55 wheels with tires and a few bucks they are 4 months old. Reason for sale is due to wanting 18s vs 19s yeah i know stupid but just works better in my setup.
