I'm looking at a blue/gray 04 CLK55 with 48K on the clock for $29,900 for use as a daily driver. Good idea or bad and what can I expect when it comes to maintenance and reliability? Thanks!

I would recommend an extended warranty in you'll be using it as a daily driver.

Wow that's cheap. If it's CPO then jump on it. NA 5.4l is bulletproof.

I think it is always a good idea to buy an AMG. The only exception to that being a used SL55. I have been informed by my dealership that they are having popped welds due to torque flex of the chassis. Too much motor!!! This issue is only covered under warrantee to the original owner!!!

Otherwise go for it.

Pulled the Trigger-Some Questions

Bought it and added a 48 Mo/48K bumper-bumper warranty for $1,900. Two questions - 1) how many clk55's came with two tone colored interiors (mine is gray with blue inserts in the seats and doors), is this common, and 2) while driving home it started to give an audible intermittent warning tone when the radio/CD was on but no warning when I switched them off. I have parktronic without distronic. I checked my service interval to see if that was the problem but Service A is not due for another 6,900 miles. I also researched my owners but could not find anything that resembled this condition. Suggestions?

The two tone seats had to be ordered as an option. I don't think it was extra. My car has the black/red(Merlot) seats. You had to choose the color when building the car.

Not sure what warning tone you are talking about. Do you get any messages in the center speedo area? When you turn off the car does it say any malfunctions?

It came on again today, beep, beep, station reception cuts out, 3 second delay, beep ,beep, sequence repeats until the audio shuts off (not the power), no malfunction lights or voice warning. It lasted for about a minute until I turned the radio off and on again. It also occurs when I'm plying a CD. I'm totally baffled and will call MB service tomorrow!

Get that issue fixed quickly (hopefully, you're still under the 4/50)....it will likely not be covered under an extended warranty.

Ugh, those stupid radios again. Ours just died one day - lights were all on, but no sound from radio/tape/CD. Nothing. They had to replace the entire radio for us. Others have had the radio come on and no matter what you do to the volume control, it was LOUDER THAN A ROCK CONCERT. Still others have had the radio go out intermittently - works one minute, doesn't the next, but after shutting it off and turning it back on, it works again. Very frustrating, and very lousy quality on these radios.

Yes, hopefully you are still within the full warranty - get it replaced.

2005 CLK55 AMG CABRIOLET
i was looking at 04 models (Much better price wise), but ended up with an 05 model for 2 reasons.

1. DVD command (vs. CD command on older models)
2. 18" wheels/tires (vs. 17" on older models)
