extended warranty on W208 CLK

I'm looking at purchasing an used 2002 CLK55 but really would like an extended warranty. I've looked thru these forums and most folks recommend purchasing one before the current factory or extended runs out. It sounded like it can be difficult (or very costly) if the car hasn't had one in a long time. My research has found the following.
1. Called Easy Care - they are one of the largest extended warranty companies out there and they will not touch an AMG. They said there's a lot of companies out there that will but many end up out of business quickly.
2. I call MB dealer here in Chicago as I was also looking at an 01 CLK55. Car had 18k miles and was in like new condition and already had an extended warranty (for another 6 months). To add another extended would start at about $3000 and if the car hit 20k miles or more, the price would go up.
Wondering is anyone has researched this lately or has any recommendations.
Thanks for any info.
My suggestion would be to contact the facility where you’ll be taking the car for service and ask them which warranty company is the easiest to work with, pays claims quickly and doesn’t hassle the shop over using factory parts.
Get two or three names of companies, then contact them for a quote and see if they will even cover an AMG.
After that, check the company out with the BBB, State Insurance Commissioner's Office and any other feedback you can obtain.
Several companies have gone belly-up over the recent past and you don't want to drop several thousand and end up with hassles - or worse - with nothing if the company goes out of business.
Just for a reference point, the factory extended warranty (3yrs/100K miles) on my 2002 CLK55 had an MSRP of $3,490 and had to be purchased within the first 12 months of ownership. Bottom line - a quality extended warranty is not going to be inexpensive. Hope this helps.
