xenon hid problem!!

hey guys i had the stock xenon bulbs on my car.i replaced them with new aftermarket bulbs since the stock ones were losing their brightness.i instaled them both and worked fine.after a while drivers side started to flicker and went out.i came home and tried the fitting the stock bulb back on but it still doesnt work.any ideas wats wrong here?do i have to reset something to make it work or the ballast went out?

thanks guys

Swap the bulb from the other side and see if that works. It's basically either the bulb or the ballast. What aftermarket bulbs did you get? Most of them are complete garbage.

Did the bulb break the ballast? I doubt it. Ballasts fail after a while, depending on use.

http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

In general stick with OEM and steer clear of chinese brands. You'll be replacing them in 2 months, if they even work haha. Take a look at that link and either go with something OEM or try their Morimoto brand. I've been running their bulbs for over 2 years without issues and their ballasts for over 1 year without issues.

Oh and make sure you check the wiring as well before you assume the ballast is dead.

thats what i thought too.after 3 hours running the bulb the ballast just died.i tapped on it a few times to see if its a loose connection but nothing.im gonna open it up tomorow and see for sure.if not ill go with morimoto.they seem like a good brand and i dont wanna spend a fortune on this.thanks alot for the link.

No problem. Also, if the ballast is dead the other one might not be far behind. If I were you I would replace both of them just in case. Same goes for the bulbs. Always replace them in pairs.

It depends on what you have in the car. You have to know what connectors the ballasts use and order the appropriate ones.

Just give them a call. They can figure it out.

how did you get the ballasts installed?since we both have w209 it should be the same i assume.does it show when you you open the hood or is it hidden?getting the ballasts to be properly installed is the only issue i have.i oculd get a used oem ballast for 120 or get brand new 2 morimoto ballasts for arnound 50 i think.i really wanna get morimoto but worried about fitment.they even said it over the phone.

To me it sounds like you would be better off simply getting another OEM ballast. If you go with aftermarket you're going to have to get a wiring harness etc and run the wires. I don't think it's worth the hassle in this case
