Intro 2005 CLK55

I've been a member for sometime and had my CLK55 for a year today so I though it was time to introduce myself and share a couple of photos.

I looked for year before I found the car I wanted. I bought my CLK55 in Dallas a year ago bone stock with 56k on the odometer. My wife and I flew down and drove home on historic Route 66. I must say I love this car it is a true GT car meant for covering vast distances quickly in comfort.

Here it is on our return to Seattle...

In the year I have had the car I've put 20k on it. This is my daily driver and it never disappoints to put a smile on my face. As I can never leave any of my cars alone for long I have modded the CLK in the last year. I had all of the chrome wrapped here locally in Seattle by Wu Wraps, Mark is amazing and his work speaks for itself. Carbon front spoiler from Gary at Suvneer. I fitted a set of staggered MRR rotary forged FS01 wheels 19x8.5/19x9.5 from SonicTunning. They were great and the wheels came out perfect. At the same time I completed a stud conversion with black alloy nuts from Motorsports Hardware. I have also modded he exhaust by having the secondary cats and resonator removed.

I still have a list of projects to complete including H&R spring, sway bars, headers and a tune so there is more to come.

Here are a few photos of completed mods...

Thanks for all of the great projects and inspiration I have seen on this forum.

Sweet! Amazing how folks are willing to drive distances to pick up a car. Thanks for sharing.

beautiful car...Cant wait to get back and mod my 05 55!

Beautiful car! I have your brother here in Florida! As a fellow 05 CLK55 owner, can you tell me how the exhaust sound went from stock to the resonator and secondary cats removed? The resonator on my car is off and I'm toying with the idea of removing the secondaries as well. I just don't want too much noise in the cabin at speed.

Guys.. thanks for all the kind comments on my car. As for the exhaust modification, I love it. It is just enough nasty/aggressive tone that it is perfect for a daily driver. When I get on it it sounds like a nasty v8 should but when I am commuting I can still take conference calls on my bluetooth. If it were not my daily driver I would probably have a custom cat back system built that is more aggressive.

I definitely agree with the above statement...delete the secondaries...sounds badass/ no drone

not sure about the w209 but i have a w208. I installed these simply marvelous inventions I found on the net.

they basically look like spark plug sockets. on one end is a male that screws into the bung and on the other a female that the sensor screws into. In the middle is a very small catalytic converter wafer. If I remember correctly they were like 20 bux ea and worked like a charm. they have been on my car for 5 years now and never set off a code. JIC your free flowing cats set off a code there is a remedy available for cheap.

Removing secondary cats will not set off a CEL

Don't mean to be rude but my ECL comes on every now and then when I drive hard after a long time then it goes off and will come on sometime again when I continuously drive gently if you can say so.
My exhaust shop fitted the fouler plug for me but I dono whats in between the sensor and the bung if anything but have thought of taking it out one day and stuffing some mesh in front with steel wool in between the sensor and the screen?
Oh well like he mentioned, loud when it needs to be and quiet as well. If I am cruising around 120km/h I cant hear anything but if I give the pedal gas then it sounds beastly. It sounds just as rof as a C63 if not better to me. I too don't have any of the cats on my car. Although this doesn't work well for people behind me passing by or for my bumper and boot lid as it gets soot all over after some time.

Gorgeous!

Thanks for he comments.... Here are the new updates.

I followed Amir AMG's lead and purchased a set of Kleemann headers...I had a local fabricator (FUSE FABRICATION in Pacific, WA) build custom exhaust... full 304 SS, Magnaflow 200 cell CAT's, Magnaflow Mufflers all, custom X-Pipe and V-Bands.... It sound truly amazing. No drone and not super loud until you open it up. It made a huge difference in mid rpm and high rpm power.https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...1c81206168.jpg

I have a Eurocharged tune coming next week and hope to have it completed shortly. I am working on posting an exhaust clip, the first was to large a file to post.

I will also post some updated pics once it's cleaned up. I added a carbon rear diffuser and AF-1 Carbon tail which is a Vorsteiner replica.

High five black 05 CLK55 brother. Mine just hit 126,000mi

Amir_AMG 01-26-2017 10:38 PM

whtnkls911 01-28-2017 06:27 PM

Amir AMG,

Thanks I appreciate the comments... your car is spectacular as well. Next is to follow your lead with KWV2's.

Here it is today cleaned up from the winter driving...

This is a decent shot of the Vorsteiner replica tail made by AF-1. It 's the carbon version, the weave is nice and it looks good but it took my body shop almost a full day to make it fit perfectly. It definitely needed fitting so keep that in mind . Also to note it's no lightweight either, my trunk release will still open the trunk but I will need to fit fresh struts if I want it to open the trunk like before.

kb24forlife24 01-30-2017 02:35 AM

I have the same problem with my AF-1. The trunk release opens, but doesn't fly up anymore. However, it's beautiful!

I'm really looking forward to your exhaust, that looks very clean.

Very nice car my friend!

Amir_AMG 01-30-2017 03:19 PM

im going to be parting out my car soon if youre interested in anything...and I have PSS9s...by far best suspension I have ever had

GatorMB 01-30-2017 03:36 PM

Parting Out? !!!!
Why Wife go south? Har Har,

I suppose S(h)it happens. My timing chain (engine overhaul) almost put me in ruins but we have a faithful way of making things right.

That exhaust looks very desirable and a noteworthy upgrade for any W209. The car is not worth dumping on yet in my opinion.

Recapping on an intruder part out thread, Should have been started from scratch.

Cheers, Gator
