removing the clutch fan??

I see this car and even when I first bought it I was thrown back that it had such old tech in it.

Generally these are good for 15-30hp.

It brings me some joy to improve upon the design which looks to be simple enough.

Phase 1:

cut a section out of the plastic cover and install an air dam to re-direct the incoming air charge into the engine bay.

Phase 2:

if the first modification is not sufficient install a secondray electric fan into the slot wired via relay set to activate via ign signal.

thoughts?

also 1 question....do anyone know if the clutch fan is a push or a pull?

I'm bumping this thread because I want to get rid of that fan clutch too.

Has anyone tried wiring the aux fans to run all the time? Do you think they could handle the cooling requirements on their own? What about putting an electric fan on the engine-side of the radiator?

i sidelined this project bc something else took over but i would recommend installing an air dam and wiring an additional fan on the inside and have a relay activate the fan with your secondary fan -or- if you want to forgo the air dam then you will have to do some research to see how much air the stock fan moves and buy an electric to match that then install on engine side and wire to ign.

It is a puller like any other engine. I ran around for a year with the fan completely removed. Electric fans OEM 100%.
I installed heat exchanger and this changed just a little. Once boosting begins aftermarket fans will be evident.
Any ones guess and depends on quality of cooling system i suppose.
The fan % can be edited with star for testing without clutch.

Cheers Soon Boosted Gator

good info, thanks gmb.

one thing i wanted to add...the gain would be linear not unilateral. aka hardly anything at lower rpm but the few hp gained from losing rotating mass would be more consistent across the rpm range(maybe 2-5)...either way free power that requires no tuning,
