Just wondering what aftermarket head units other w209 clk 55 owners are rocking and where to purchase them? I see a lot of options online but can’t tell which one to get.
I'd recommend upgrading to the stock COMAND unit - it's made by Alpine and just doing that is a HUGE upgrade in sound quality. (Still not the last word, but still pretty good for a stock audio system).
That being said, there are lots of Android units that look stock and are around $300. You may still need extra modules to work with the steering wheel controls, dash display, etc.
In it's current configuration, the head unit is just a preamp. You have a separate amplifier in the trunk via fiber optics.
If you want to scrap it all, any double DIN unit will work with an adapter to fit the dash, but since the amplifier is in the trunk, that's where all the speaker wiring will be.
I actually went a bit further with my "stock" COMAND unit - I added a Bluetooth interface for phone and streaming and swapped out the guts from a 2008 GL to add backup camera functionality.
