W209 CLK55 Headlights.
 

Any W209 owners have problems with the headlight position? My driver side headlight does not light up the road in fornt of me at all. The beam is alos lower than the pasesenger side. I can barely drive my car at night because of the lights. A 04 E320 that I drove had an amazing light beam, the road visibility was very good. MB said they adjusted the lights to factory spec but they look the same to me.

Any help would be appreciated

Dude, I feel your pain. You described my headlights exactly!!
The low beams are horrendous. Its to the point that I'm forced to slow down when using my low beams because I start to focus on the line that is formed by the lights and the darkness and I can't tell whats coming up. It sucks. Thank God the high beams are super strong!
After this winter I will bring her in for my first service. I will have them check the lights out.

I have read in other posts that this is the way Mercedes sets the lights from the factory as not to blind oncoming traffic. The driver side headlight shines about a foot lower on the road than the other. This sounds retarded to me, but I'm afraid my dealership probably won't help much.

I thought I also read somewhere that you can adjust these headlights yourself. When you pop the hood, isn't there a spot where you can turn a screw or something and it raises the lights?

i know this probably won't help but since i'm not in front of my manual or car, all i know is that on the BMWs there is a screw (which is really two little gear thingies) that you use a phillips on and it moves the HID beams higher/lower whatever.
I have an '04 CLK500 and agree that the driver HID beam is slightly lower than the right side. i also agree the beams are not as bright as my prior BMW 3 series HID. but they are definitely fine enough to drive w/o problems on low beam. High beam is devastatingly bright - lights up miles away!

You can adjust the height manually. But maybe there is something wrong with the auto leveling sensor????

the CLK55 doesn't come with standard bi xenons in the US...maybe they have halogen lights...and thus no auto levelling...nevertheless the lights can be aimed manually...

I have the Bi-Xenons and I have seen the auto-leveling mechanism in action......but my car has always been like this. Its not something that just happened one day. So I am ruling out the leveling sensor. I think MB did that on purpose...as not to blind oncoming traffic.

I had the same problem. I took it to my dealer and they adjusted them up for me and now they are fine. The were really low especially on the driver side.

I check to see if I can adjust them up alittle.

Maybe the 2" drop that the Carlsson RS suspension gave me is causing the beam level to be lower than the factory setting. I've also never seen the auto levelling mechanism work and I have the Bi Xenons.

I know your car has bi-xenons, thats why I was saying it might be the auto leveling sensor. :) You have to turn the switch to Auto before starting your car, then you should be able to see the lights leveling itself. BUT even if you see them moving, the positioning might be off too. Maybe you can take your car to Frank's place and have him take a quick look. Just jack up the car and you can almost see it right away. The sensor is mounted on the front sway bar.

I have the same drop as yours and I have no problem with the lights.

Btw, I've received the "Purolator envelope" and I am arranging for a shipping company to pick up the parts. Since it is such a huge box traveling for such a long distance, I just want to make sure the company is reliable.

LSD=Limited Slip Differential.
