that clk63 blk is one sweet car. i'm 43 i can see myself in it. a gallardo is over the top for me. i'm going to the show on monday - honda s2000 cr, clk63 blk, new g37...yea finally some interesting cars.
As I said some AMG's suck for the track not all.
the W203 AMG is probally one of the best track cars for AMG, since it weighs the least of any of them.

But if u take a stock AMG with stock rims and tire and brakes ect. I can say More than half of them would embarrass their owners.

Hey guys, here are some pics from Thursday's night AMG Preview Night at the NY Auto Show, enjoy!

And my personal favorite, a pic with the man himself, Volker Mornhinweg...I am on the right.

I read in another post that someone talked to their dealership and they are estimating $135,000. Some guy kept pressing Mornhinweg at the show to give a price and he said it would be released soon.

Why does the web site show the outstanding black perlon velour for the ROW vehicle the great, but different power black perlon velour for US vehicles and the very nice leather power seats at the NY auto show?

Would the ROW seats be available for purchase and retrofit into non-black series vehicles?

One of the blogs indicated that the CLK 63 black will have a lap timer. Doesn't look like its through the Nav. as that looks like standard C class.
Anybody at the autoshow notice a lap timer on the dash?

HUH?....... I bought a 2003 GT2 NEW and while shopping all around the US for one that was loaded with everything including the 'kitchen sink' and the ones I found were in the high $180s or low $190s. I was then fortunate enough to locate one in West Palm Beach, Florida that had a window sticker of $205 and change! So I'm pretty sure the base price was around $170-$175. Where did you get the $130 price? Magwheel

p.s. I still have the window sticker from mine if I need to check it out!

Jim,

I sat in both the driver and passenger seat of the CLK63 Black this past Thursday night at the AMG preview party. I did Not see any lap timer device at all, and I know what they look like because my Porsche 997S has one on the dash.

This is my first post, so "hello" to everyone here in MB land. I am a current owner of other interesting cars, and I have owned two AMG cars, both CL55s.

I placed a deposit on the car Thursday without knowing the price. If production is limited to 350 cars then this car will be in enormous demand even if the price is in the $135ish range. I only hope that MB keeps the production numbers low (for selfish reasons).

This car seems to have all the makings of being a truly special car. I can't stop looking at the photos of the car. It's elegantly aggressive and it's unique from anything out there now, imo.

MBH,
Thanks, I found the piece that was on worldcarfans.

"AMG Instrument Cluster with RACETIMER".... The carbon-embedded AMG instrument cluster with its 320/km/h scale furnishes an exclusive ambience and high functionality at the same time. The AMG main menu in the cluster is perfectly tailored to serious racing: it shows the current gear engaged, as well as an upshift recommendation in "M" mode,or alternatively engine oil temperature or battery voltage, as well as the RACETIMER. This function enables the driver to determine his lap times on a closed course. The RACETIMER stores the time of the fastest lap, average and maxium speeds, and the length of the laps."

Apparently, the AMG instrument cluster furnishes this timer, but how do you activate the timing, even if the display is on the dash, still gota press the button. Wheres the button?

It's probably all controlled through the Multifunction display and would just be one of the arrow buttons or something on the steering wheel.

Thanks for the heads up on that Jim, I had no idea that this car had a Racetimer function. There was no power in the vehicle so we could not operate the instrument cluster. That is a cool item for this car.

Yeah did you hear that one guy that kept saying "start it!" haha

I wasn't even thinking, the MBWorld people should have met up at the AMG Night. Oh well, it was lots of fun anyway, I really wanted to sit in the new C-Class though.

Just for your own knowledge base, I got off my lazy *** and went and pulled my 2003 GT2 Window Sticker off the shelf and the base price was $181,700. Mags

The CLK63 Black Series web site opening screen permits selection of either the US vehicle or the global vehicle, or ROW (Rest of World). The ROW vehicle has better seats than those shown on the US vehicle web site or than shown at the NYC (New York City) auto show.

These are the ROW seats.

These are the US seats, in leather. The web site also shows these in black perlon velour.

The more I think about this car the more I wish this is how the regular AMG model appeared, with its unmistakable appearance. I think MB is following Audi's trend of having the standard model line with next step up AMG models, then the top shelf Black Series. Of course it would be nice to see some decent production numbers of Black Series cars.

H-MAN, seems like they are testing the waters first. MBUSA as well as AMG said on thursday that if this car is really hot (which it looks like it will be), then there will be future black editions to follow in the near future.

I'm sure KarDon is right, they want to see how it does. Look at all of the 65 AMGs, haven't they not been as popular as MBUSA thought--demonstrated by the quick depreciation and high discounts that were given on many new models. If the Black Series sells well they will probably up the production a lot. After all they worship the same god we all do, the god of $$.
