Smile My CLK63 AMG Black Series

Well, this is my CLK 63 AMG Black Series story. After I decided it was time to properly jumpstart my midlife crisis due to celebrating my pending 40th birthday, I choose the CLK 63 AMG Black Series to do just that.

I contacted my good friend Steve to see if he was willing to help me find the right second hand CLK BS from Germany, and so we did.

Soon after finding the right vehicle (accident free, 15.5k miles, pampered, white), we realised ourselves there were some convenience and luxury options missing. We made a shopping list, Steve ordered the parts, and I broke my piggy bank (once again).

We decided I needed:
  • Proper Tire Pressure Monitoring (world exclusive to this vehicle)
  • Proper Keyless go (+entry) (world exclusive to this vehicle)
  • Parktronic (world exclusive to this vehicle)
  • Power Folding Mirrors
  • Memory Mirrors (Reversing aid) (world exclusive to this vehicle)
  • Alarm (tilt, interior motion sensor)
  • Harman Kardon Sound System (european exclusive to this vehicle)
  • Power Trunk Close/Lock (world exclusive to this vehicle)
  • iPod Kit
  • Illuminated AMG door sills
  • Alcantara headliner
  • Leather AMG Airbag

I had to wait a couple of weeks before all was done. In the meantime I turned 40. Below some pics of the resulting -unique, yet fitted with OEM options only- car. You all know how it drives, so I won't elaborate about that now.

Thumbs up

Looks great, thanks for posting.

The euro seats make a HUGE difference and white accentuates the aggressive lines far more than say silver. The alcantara roof should've been standard, it really completes the interior...

Way to get a great deal on a pristine car...

The car is beautiful, except for the world exclusive Parktronic. The sensors are a blight on the bumpers. At least IMO.

Hope you love the car!

Interesting you should mention that considering the factory used a silver car in most all of the early press photos and literature.

from your characteristic anger I'll guess you own a silver one...no offense intended, I do think silver does still look good if it makes you feel better

No anger here...and you ARE entitled to your opinion; even if it is flawed.

I'm the complete opposite. I bought a BS because it didn't have all those electronic gizmos . Looks like you lowered the ride height. Now it either needs wheels or some H&R spacers ... Zo spoedig mogelijk, zo vroeg mogelijk

More Dutchies!

I added parktronic and the tilting right mirror to avoid parking damage. Prior experience taught me that not having these features will be more expensive on the long run.

Keyless entry was a no-brainer. Why have keyless-start and not keyless-entry?

Harman Kardon sound. The US version has it as standard equipment right? So I had to have it too

The rest? Well, once Steve gets busy, there is no stopping him

And yes, I LOVE this car. What an animal...

Oh, before I forget: white > silver , I thought we all agreed on that?

Overall I like it, all the gizmos make the car easier to live with and as a daily driver. Probably adds 20 lbs overall, but it should still be lighter than the US spec car with the heavy seats and side airbags.

I do agree the parking sensors make it look too busy.

Just made a roadtrip through the Alps and Pyrynee mountains with some friends. 4.500 km in a week of drifting through hairpins.

That's the car of one of my traveling companions. Brand new, yet he wasn't afraid to add miles and stone chips to his car (and remove rubber from his tires).

Tomorrow I'm going to wash my car. I'm taking the whole day off...

I guess so. It took me 2,5 hours of cleaning and rinsing to make it acceptable again. Man, white has its disadvantages too.

And I had to repair the windshield due to a stone I think the green 964 RS launched at me:

You should have a 3m clearbra installed - really helps protect the paint and makes cleaning much easier. I use Plexus plastic cleaner on mine and it works great.

Don't the seams where the bra ends turn black over time making the 3M wrap very obvious on the car?

The rear fenders could also use some extra protections if you ask me.

No, not at all if it is installed corretly and the seams are wrapped around edges...that way you never even see the seams. I have the entire front of my car wrapped all the way up to the windshield, fenders, rocker panels under the doors, side view mirrors, rear fender flares, and behind the rear wheels. Not a scratch nic or ding anywhere

PS - could the 964RS and the AM V8 keep up with you ? I bet the 964 was all over you in the twisties....

I believe that is actually the new V12 vantage in the picture. It is a lot more capable of keeping up than the V8. I recently saw one in person a couple of weeks ago. the exhaust sound was quite impressive. I don't know if i could justify the $200k price tag though. It makes the BS look like a relative bargain even at the original MSRP.
