$1-2k under MSRP if you are a good negotiator. Otherwise MSRP.

And if you know someone, a lot more off MSRP.

e vs. cls

Now we all know these are basicly the same exact car except for the body panels and a few material differences inside. So for the extra 10k what are we getting? Is it just a profit margin increase for mercedes. I think it's better looking that the E. but 10k for the same car with no real advantages I can see. Help me out here and convince me into a CLS.

One of the biggest reasons why someone chooses to buy one car over anther is the looks.

The current E-class is pretty hideous in my opinion, they botched this car, no question. I'm not the only one saying that.

I had a W211 E55 and that was an amazing car, and it looked great. Every time I saw a new E-class in town I think of a Russian grandma parading around Beverly Hills.

The CLS is gorgeous, it drives better than an E-class (two weekend ago we drove an E550, CLS550 and an E63 back-to-back-to-back for 3+ hours and the E550 felt like ****, the 63 and the CLS550 were close, really close, the E63 owner was really surprised at how close they were).

The CLS interior ****s all over any E-class, even a 63

I think that unless the CLS's design captures the extra cash from you, then it absolutely isn't worth it over the E-Class.

Design is subjective, and many people, myself included, find the CLS nice, but too overly fussy and flawed, especially the upper swag line that goes reverse-wedge, contrasting any other form of the vehicles design (wedge shape), giving the car a slightly stubby and convoluted appearance IMO. The W212 is another design that has purists upset at the fussy and heavily creased design (myself included initially), but IMO it looks more harmonious and looks more comfortable on the road and in motion. The W212 is the most popular E-Class in history so far, so obviously the fans outweigh the naysayers.

Interior materials are more plush and fancy on the CLS, but it's clear that the CLS's inside is an E-Classes, with a slightly different design, and swathed in more leather. To me, it's not night and day, and just as I preferred the statelier inside of the W211 to the previous' flashy and fashionable CLS's, I still appreciate the E's statelier and more lasting interior feel, although I do think the new CLS combines more sophistication to go with the flash and fashion inside, than the first one did.

Driving wise, I found the E to be slightly quieter, and the E550 will drive very similarly to a CLS550, if not identically. Most notable difference is in the steering feel, and slightly sportier ride (or at least it feels that way). Which is appropriate, as the E should go more Luxury, while the CLS should incorporate more Sport, to go alongside the cars profile and form, and utter lack of functionality and design efficiency (it isn't even as aerodynamic as the E-Class, as odd as that may be).

The CLS is an emotionally-charged concept, so when it comes to paying more for it over an E-Class, it has to really be the Design alluring and enticing you to do so.

go to www.truecar.com. you can easily get $3,000 to $4,000 off of sticker. Also, if you are a USAA member, you can save an additional $3,000 off whatever price you negotiate.

Well the new 12' CLS550 has a completely different and superior engine than the 11' E550. I assume the E550 is not getting that engine until the 2013 model, correct?..So that in itself is significant enough for the price difference. But while they are identical, the people who pay the extra cost for the CLS are simply doing it because of the looks because it certainly isn't as functional as the E. In my opinion, the looks and exclusive factor(compared to the e) are easily worth the 10k extra than the E.

Actually the E550 is getting the same TT V8 as the CLS this year, but I think it's Airmatic that they made Optional on it.

One thing i I do see, is more of the 2012's used up for sale. Rather interesting, 1000 miles or less on them.

Haha, I've already gotten solicitations from some Dealers to "swap to a 2012 when it comes out", as I seem to be pretty popular with M-B Dealers around here, considering I've given business to a handful of them in the past few years, but I dunno. I love the W212, truly the #1 overall car for me at the moment, but damn, 3 times? Even though I've only been in the 212's for a combined 1 year and 3 months so far, I just feel like if I start the whole process again, I might as well try and see if I can spin-off into something different. On the flip side, I have no intentions of getting out of my car for a while (at the moment, at least, lol). But hey, if they drop the payments for a 2012, how can I say no?

Yup, same here. I noticed a sweet Silver one with rear spoiler and normal Options for $73K asking, with under 600 miles. I reiterate my "price target" for a CLS if I wanted one at high $50's to low $60's in about a year (Used), and mid-high $60's (New). Who knows, but if M-B continue their current price slashings, anything's possible. I still kinda love/don't fully like the new CLS, but regardless of where my opinion sways, the damn thing has no headroom for someone my height.

I've seen similar over invoice pricing for a pre-order that I am working on. How does the conquest cash work?

Any idea how the Conquest Cash program works? Does it have to be a live program offer during the month that you take delivery, or can it be nogotiated in October for a build date say in January?

conquest works if you own non mercedes car, like bmw , audi, porsche. I think it can be applied at the time of signing the papers or putting your order in.

I have received three offers from Mercedes on my CLS to get me into a new one. They seem to really want my car bad, but I am not trading up now.

Was at the Auto Show yesterday, and during my 5 or so mins around the new CLS, I heard numerous people saying how they like the old/first one better. My friend was one of them. I guess holding onto the previous one isn't such a bad idea.

i was at the auto show saturday and all i have to say is i was blown away by how nice the interior is in this new CLS. i really didn't want to get out. i went right afterwards and sat in the white CL550 4matic they had and i thought to myself that the CLS interior was leagues ahead of the W221 S/W216 CL interior.

definitely one of my favorite cars at the show

Yeah, they really nailed the interior. They combined the architecture of the E-Class with elements of the S-Class, giving it a more dazzled and "sportier" S-Class vibe with the more modern architecture. The exterior is still a love/meh mix with me though. Mostly due to the random stubby upward swag line ruining the side profile. Otherwise, the rear is M-B's best in the current lineup IMO, and the front looks stunning especially from far.

Really? I LOVE the taillights! Lol. So funny how people can have such different perceptions.

To me, the tails are the best on the M-B lot, however the side lines are the worst.

I totally agree about the interior of the CLS. I was all set to buy the A7 before it was even released, but when I went on a test drive, I wasn't very impressed by the interior, as there was a lot of plastic. The reality wasn't nearly as good as the pictures (and definitely didn't live up to the hype from the press). A few weeks later, I went to test drive the CLS -- before seeing it in person, I didn't think much of the interior from the online photos, but the second I opened the door, I was absolutely floored. To me, the CLS oozes luxury with its interior design.

K-A and gaazmon, did you happen to be able to see the interior of the new BMW 6-series at the show? If so, I am wondering what you both felt of it vs the interior of the CLS. I am in no rush to buy a new car, but the two top contenders now would be the CLS or the upcoming Gran Coupe. The 6-series interior looks amazing in photos, and I believe the Gran Coupe will share the same interior -- the tornado leather dash with contrast stitching and that huge screen are very nice. I also like that BMW gives the consumer the option of two-tone interiors without opting for "designo." If only MB would offer the porcelain/black interior without having to buy a launch edition CLS!
