2015 CLS550 Front Headlights conversion on a 2012-2014 CLS550?

I noticed the 2015 CLS550 is offered with two different sets of headlights.
The brand new 2015 headlights and the 2012-2014 headlights...

If this is the case, it MUST be possible to put the new 2015 headlights on
a 2012-2014 CLS550.

Has anyone done this conversion? I have a 2014 so I'm seriously thinking
about it.

:D

I'm thinking that for the internal LED system to work as intended, some sort of software must be missing from our vehicles, but I may be wrong.

Why would backward compatibility in the 2015 model mandate forward compatibility in the 2014?

It MAY be possible; there are few problems that can't be solved if you're willing to spend enough money...

Personally I prefer the 2012-2014 look anyway. It looks more unique than the new 2015 look which takes after the whole MB family.

Been a while Scott - how're you doing on those 19s. The 18s I got from you are doing fine and with Blizzak's on, saw me through a couple of snow storms.

Hi Spencer,

Doing well. Haven't had near the snow you have. Most of the snow in the Rockies is in the spring.

Scott

Im thinking abt it too...now im about to buy 2014 CLS... i prefer the face of 2014....new 2015 facelift looks like CLA. But still cant decide should I wait 2015 model launch in my local dealer.

Hamouri 03-11-2015 04:32 AM

old headlights look way better. but let me know if this works.

radicalrev 06-12-2015 01:31 PM

any updates on this? maybe someone in EU has done the conversion?

wasupdu 06-14-2015 11:09 PM

agreed about the preference for the older headlamps. I don't like looking like a C from a distance. Arrogant I guess. :nix:

I changed my 2013 CLS550 into a 2015 CLS63... I miss the headlights from the 550.

How much did it cost you and what did you have to do?

cmiiw, I think he traded in his 550 for a 2015 CLS63, not a conversion.

The G Man 10-13-2015 02:23 PM

Which LED headlight is brighter? The 2015 or pre-2015?

netienne 10-13-2015 04:15 PM

Does anyone know what package needs to be added to factory build to get the newer style headlights?

Ive seen on MBUsa.com inventory vehicles with Full LED Headlamps AND Intelligent Highbeam Control yet the picture showed the old style headlights. To add further confusion, ive seen vehicles with Full LED Headlamps AND Intelligent Highbeam Control and the picture DID show the newer style headlights.

Please advise if anyone knows what package needs to be added to get the newer style headlights.

I like the 12-14 style much better. Someone on here got a 2015 cls, and put the 12-14 headlights on their 2015 and it looks perfect.

The G Man 10-30-2015 08:38 AM

On a side note, are the 2015 and the 2012-2014 grille inter-changeable?

WCampbellAZ 11-05-2015 10:30 AM

Has anyone found any more info on this? I'm less interested in the headlights and more curious as to if the Front and rear bumpers and grille are interchangeable.

3FIFTY 11-06-2015 10:42 AM

I don't see how this would be possible without changing the whole front end of the car. The hood, front fenders and bumper are molded around the shape of the headlights.

Comparing the two, the headlight shape seems identical though? The internal design is different but the overall size and shape seems unchanged.

roger_1 11-09-2015 03:34 AM

Ive looked at my 12 CLS parked next to a 15 and the headlight shape is identical, also the fact that the 15 uses the headlights of the previous years means that the dimensions of the sheet metal didn't change.

I too would be very interested in knowing if this possible.

They are. There was a post on there with a guy that had a 20015 and got the lights from a 2012 and thwey are drop in. I think he had a 2012 and did the switch with the new car.

I agree with you guys, I like the 2012 wrap around LED's better as they're more unique :)

I still agree!

blue00r6 02-09-2016 11:23 PM

Agree w/the rest of these guys, I ordered my 15 CLS w/o the lighting package because the wraparound LEDs were the distinguishing feature of the latest CLS in my opinion... a year later and I still don't regret it!
