I just bought a new cls550 in December. Today when I was drying off my car I noticed this hairline crack in the passenger mirror ( the stem that attaches to the door). I may have been there all this time and just didn't notice it. I dont know how it could have happened but its distressing for a new vehicle, especially a 90k car. Any ideas on what to do ? I did forward a pic to the dealers service center after they closed.

We can add to your confusion , however I would use your free time to camp out at the selling dealers service dept!!

If it is a hair line crack and not pit or star, it should be under warranty. If I remember right, those self dimming mirror are very expensive, more than $500.

OK. i contacted the service center and they were going to talk to their body shop on how to tackle it. Its small now and not noticeable because its underneath the mirror. I HATE imperfections on a brand new car but I am OCD when it comes to these issues unfortunately.

Although I do not have this problem with my 2017 CLS, I did have a similar crack on the mirror of my previous Mercedes - 2012 ML 350. It clearly was a stress crack as there was no ding or damage anywhere near the crack (mine was located higher up on the mirror than your picture shows). I took it to the dealer, told the service manager it was an obvious stress crack and they replaced the entire mirror under warranty. Unless damage beyond just the crack is present, it is a stress crack and should be covered.

Thanks. No, there is no other damage anywhere. I emailed the pic to my service Dept. I live 45 min away from them and are too busy at work to go up there right now. I'm hoping they will take care of it.
