Fab,

Is your 350 petrol or diesel? My CLS550 4Matic has an instant reaction to the paddle shifters. I'm wondering if we have the same or different transmissions? Marv

I think it's more a transmission control issue than the paddle shifter interface. What I found out here or another forum is that if you know you're going to pass someone or go downhill, if you pull the paddle in and hold it, the computer takes you to the lowest available gear instantly. Same for going upshift. Anyone else please chime in! Marv

I don't know what is different, but when I hold mine, say downshift, the trans goes to the lowest gear available based on speed and rpm. Sorry, I can't give you better advice. Anyone else out there have any thoughts? Have you had your system read for faults? We don't have the diesel here in the US, maybe a visit to your dealer is needed. Marv

When you hold your DOWN paddle shifter for say 1-2 seconds, it should automatically jump down to the lowest gear possible at around 3.5k rpm. If you hold UP, it should put you in automatic mode and let the system select gears for you. I think if I hold the DOWN, it takes about 1 to 1.5 secs of time for it to downshift to the lowest gear.
I think the shifting speed varies on each model and shifts quicker as the trims go higher? From 350 to 400 to 550 to AMG? Sometimes when I'm pulling my 550, I'd want to shift around 4.5k rpm because the exhaust does loud upshifting around that rpm...SOMETIMES it won't shift until it reaches higher rpm, sometimes it will.

Wished the gear shifts were more quicker :/

thank you guys fpr sharing your experiences ...well after that i think there is no way...or maybe to be engineer and custom the electronic gear box :-) or goes for a 4matic or AMG (sport+ should be amazing for that). for us it is just a toy or at least it could help when you drive in mountains

I think tunes improve that. Mine takes 1-2s to shift in manual mode, the whole throttle response is pretty terrible too, I’ve just learned to live with it

Yea I heard...I did recently get it tuned by EC, but due to flat tire, I haven't done much lol But I feel the power is there. Yea the throttle response kind of sucks though. There is a lot of turbo lag. Sometimes I think maybe these cars came with a supercharger lol. Even though these cars are fast and quick...but it doesn't have that "throw you against your seat" moment like the natural aspirated engines gives you. My old W211 E350, 270bhp. I put it in manual and tap the pedal, it will jump and throw your head back in the seat. These turbocharged V8s don't do that. It's wayyyy smother pull. I kinda miss that "push" lol

There's this video regarding his benz shifting very slow, though it was on his W211 E55 AMG. Real time shifting between his both E55 and C63 was a huge difference...you can pick it up from the video, the way the rpm needle drops on a gear shift. He changed a bottom part of his transmission that costed around 600 bucks and he mentioned in the video that the shifting has gotten a lot better/aggressive on E55, but not as aggressive as the C63. It's called Valve Core Body?

Watch the video and maybe something like this applies to C218 or the newer models as well??

This is the link for the order of New valve core body or rebuild your stock one.

722.9 NAG2 Transmissions

The valve body described above is for an earlier version of our transmissions (722.6 NAG1 5-speed). They don't make any mention of our 7-speed transmissions (722.9 NAG2). I couldn't find any mention of our tranny on their site. Marv

Yea I didn't find anything regarding the newer Trans, but gave that video out if someone else knows something about those valve bodies. I am curious to find out too if there is something like that valve body to make the gears shift quicker like the AMG models. Maybe not?
