ESP Defective!

This car is killing me with its problems... Anyways i got two malfunctions yesterday

1. ESP defective
2. Headlamp Cornering Unavailable.

The car has about 1500 miles only. Why is this happening.

When i turn off the car and then switch it on when its stationary there are no malfunctions however when i drive they come up.

What could be the cause of the ESP defection?

bhr, I have an 03 E 320 and in my case, the ESP defective warning light was due to a failed steering wheel angle sensor.

In my opinion, your case involves taking the car to the dealership and letting them solve the problems. Don't panic and stress over minor stuff like this. My feeling is that the Germans make these ominous warning lights in red lights with beeping sounds to reach the fraction of the population that will ignore stuff unless it sounds life threatening.

These two problems you mentioned sound like they have easy solutions. It is the intermittent electrical problems that are most frustrating, because then you might get the "cannot replicate problem" answer.

Your why question ("why is this happening?") is a philosophical and existential question (the why question for many aspects of life tortured me for many years, so I speak from personal experience). You will live a happier life if you focus on what, where, when, and how questions.

Most of what I have told you falls into the advice / counseling category. Feel free to completely ignore it if it isn't useful for you.

In the time it took to make this post, you could have simply phoned up MB service and made an appointment to have the car looked at. Did your car not come with a warranty?

Well there are times to bend over and there are times not to. My rule is to take it in and see if they can fix the problem. If someting is going to fail it's probably going to do it right out of the box. But if they can't fix it in three times I get hard with them. These are not cheap cars and we shouldn't be treated that way.

ESP, distronic and door switches all gone bad

Yes. You read it right. And interesting enough, my s500 last month started to give me similar messages ( airtronic, esp and abs gone bad) the dealership said they could not find the prolem, as it did not hapen again. On the S500 the problems had not presented themsleves again ( I am not driving it much lately) but the CLS is getting worse every day.

I am starting to think that is has something to do wih me. MY TL 04 and my C6 both also had electronics problems..

HELP!

I may need to start driving some old car with no electronics..

I have the same problem with my CLS 500. The ESP and the active headlamps malfunction.

I also want to know if anyone is experiencing a weird vibration on the brakes, as if some sort of machine/motor is turning on as you are driving, causing the feel of vibration on the brake pedal

I have 3000 miles on it and its going for its first service. Other than that this car turns heads.

Hi - A simple fix of a module in the steering wheel should correct the ESP/ABS / Active Headlights issue. I had the same issue.

The vibration in your break pedal is very likely the result of the electric breaks - which tend to give driver feedback through the brake pedal at times. My 2004 E Class was very noticeable in this regard. My new CLS is much less so.

Also look into “Service” Campaign #2005060008 AUG05 Programming Battery Control Module – implausible or illogical messages can appear in the instrument cluster which will result in certain electrical consumers being shut down. This is caused by the battery control unit erroneously evaluating the battery charge level as good when the actual charge level may be insufficient.

2006 CLS 500(sold), 2005 C230K, 2005 E 320,
Taking My Cls 500 For Service Tommorrow. To Fix The Following:

Headlamp Washer On Left Non Functioning
Esp & Active Headlights Non Functioning
Excessive Feedback On Brake Pedal With Vibration
Steering Vibration

Lets See How It Comes Out. It Has 2700 Miles On It.

They Are Giving Me A C240 Loaner. A Bit Frugal I Think For A 75k Purchase Besides Other Cars.

My 2 cents.....car going in for:

ESP, offline
Headlamp cornering, offline
Cruise control, offline
Steering vibration, slight
Teleaid, upon connection goes to no signal strength. (tried to call about the above problems....glad I really did not need it ie:CRASH!)
Mildew smell in AC unit.

2006 CLS 500(sold), 2005 C230K, 2005 E 320,
Gave the CLS 500 in, for service. Apparently there is a recall on some aux battery supply.

also, instead of a C240, I drive home in a Ford Taurus that vibrates like crazy at 50mph. I get home(45 min on the interstate, posted speed limit 70mph ) with a headache and low morale. I wonder what a buyer of a Maybach gets when he takes it for servicing? ... a Mercury montego?

I suppose they cannot have 100 C Class loaners, with so many service problems at Benz. The place was packed with people dropping off cars. A bit like a airport.

My car just lit up today also.

ESP Malfunction
Cornering Headlamps Unavaliable.

But heres the kicker. Something happened to the suspension. It doesn't dampen whatsoever. It feels like im riding in a go-cart, I feel every bump, crevis, and curve on the road.

Gentlemen,

Unfortunatly they are coming from the factory with a defective sensor.
Same sensor for the esp and lamps. when the sensor has failed and not been reset it also takes out the cruise control. You will notice the cruise works unless the sensor has set off the warning message.

the dealers know about it and should have the part in stock. The sensor is located under the steering wheel.

Part #mbn 171 545 10 32 pain in the butt, but an easy, fast fix
