19" or 20" wheels on CLS 320 CDI

Hi all,

I'm getting my CLS 320CDI delivered sometime August, and I'm at the moment looking for a nice set of wheels for the car.

My biggest concern is the comfortability of the ride after putting 19" or 20" on the car...the car has been ordered with Airmatic DC, and I'm hopeing that this will support my wish of an easy ride even with 19" or 20" wheels on.

Is the difference big between rideing with 19" and 20" wheels when i comes to handling and the comfortability of the ride?

Am also considering different ways of lowering the car...am I right that this can be done by Star Diagnosis at an MB shop?

I asked them the other day, and they didn't quite now, cause the tried it on a M-Class which adjusted itself back to original height when they disconnected the Star Diagnosis.

Thanks in advance for your replies:-)

I had a CLS 500 with the AMG 18" sport wheels and I can tell you that the car was very smooth. The car would not ride -- it floated. This is mostly due to the Air Matic suspension more than anything else.

Moving up to 19" wheels should not cause that much of a difference.

As far as I know here in the U.S. no dealer will lower the car via Star Diagnostic. I had mine lowered by Steve from MBenzNL.com about .75" all around (20mm). The car is still within MB Factory specs. Ride comfort stayed the same. One of the features of the Airmatic Suspension is that even when raised or lowered it the springs still travel the same distance.

I would imagine that 20" wheels would make a noticable ride difference.

U can't put 22's on a cls. Im lowered via star and ridin on 20x9's in the front and 20x11's in the rear with 305-25-20's and i have a pretty comfortable ride. My friends dad just got a cls and put it on 21" athens rims, and the ride is ok, but it looks like the car is an off road vehicle.

Yeah, well wouldn't even consider putting that big wheels on the car...too gangster for Denmark at this point:-)

Was the lowering you did via star easy? Anything you should be aware of before asking a shop to lower the car via star?

By the way, thx for the replies!
