2006 CLS Tire Size Question

Hi, I have read everything on the forums, I know it can be annoying with people asking questions but I don't understand staggered setup rim dimensions.

So a 2006 CLS
Front 245/40/r18 8.5
Rear 275/35/r18 9.5

I need tires, they are bald... I don't know what I should do .. I want a summer set and a winter set. Here is my dilemma

Can I put 245/40/r18 all around winters even in the rear? because they are common or does it have to be the 275/35 with stock rims (I've heard this setup for winters is limited in tire selection and not optimum handling on these forums).

If I can fit winters on the stock rims, then I will consider buying Summer tire/rim combo....

What are the best winter tires for the CLS,
Verdestien Winter track extreme - is being used by UWANTIt2
Others have used Blizzaks and are OK with it?

I am in toronto and want the best tires there are so I have 0 Problems, and I am willing to spend a few more bucks on them

I'm in the same boat with my 2008 CLS, except my current rubber isn't bald yet.

You want THE best winter tire? Go with Hakkapeliittas from Finland. I know from using these in Denver for many years and winning several Ice Gymkhanas on the 18" think ice on the lake at Georgetown, CO in BMWs. For winter use, I have studded 235/55x18 Hakka 7 SUV tires for my GLK mounted on TSW rims.

Check the various options for Hakka tires starting at

http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=1...kapeliitta%207

I don't have snow tires for my CLS550, but if I did, they'd probably be studded Hakka 7s and I would consider going with a narrower tire like 235/50x18 for better traction in deep snow and slush. The narrower tire will dig deeper into the snow.

Here are some photos of me blowing snow with my 325iX shod with Hakkas.

Isn't 235 too narrow for the CLS?

Yes, probably so and the 9.5 rear rims are too wide for that size. But if in doubt for winter tire size, go with the narrower width.

You'll be really pushing the walls of your low-profile 245s on 9.5 rims. I would not advise that. 255-265 all around are your options.

You'll want to have higher wall in winter to protect your rims and have 'softer' tire for better grip in the snow. 40s are better option in 255.
As for 265, not sure your car can take tire of this diameter - anyone tried 265/40/18 on CLS ?

I just spoke with a tire shop expert and he told me he has 245s on his 10 inch wheels and if i think 9.5 is a stretch to come see his car. He said 245s are cheaper and better traction then the 255s for the winter... He said 245s will easily fit on a 9.5inch rim for winter its actually better then 255. He said you are no where close to pushing the limits on the stretch. Why are some of you saying its really pushing it. He said there is barely much of a stretch on the tire for a 245 on a 9.5 inch rim. He finished the convo by saying, dude im a tire guy, i know this stuff i sell 1000s a day you cannot listen to people who know cars, but not tires. lolol

Well IMO these cars are like pigs on ice in the winter. They drive like the old american sedans of the 70s.

I used the recommended 255/40/18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM60s from TireRack and liked them.

Need new tires!

I am new to this site and need a bit (lot) of help. I need new tires for my CLS500 and am verrrry confused about all the choices. (assume I know nothing!!) Right now I have Michelin 255/40/18 in front and 285/35/18 rear tires. I live in southern Ohio, so I get hot and cold weather. I don't think I can afford a set for summer and a set for winter. And do I have to replace all 4 if 1 is OK?? (I've read that you should never replace just 1 tire) Can I get some recommendations please? Thx

2015 Mercedes Benz cls550 4matic
Is it ok to put 245/45 R18 snow tires on a 2015 Mercedes cls550 4matic without encountering complications?
