Extended Warranty on SBC Brakes for real?

Hi All,
I was looking at the w211 forum today and noticed a post that indicated there has been an extension to our warranty coverage for SBC brakes.
It seems too good to be true, and I cannot find any other documentation on the web (e.g., TSBs, Press Releases, etc.).
Here is the link, what do you think is this real?

Does nobody care that the most fragile and expensive item on the vehicle is now covered by an unlimited warranty??

Some of us do! I just got a letter in the mail stating that I am covered for 25 years/unlimited mileage. Will try to upload the letter tomorrow.

Just received my letter the other day also. I've made repairs to the system DIY style, now I'll have to visit my dealer to see if I can recoup any of my out of pocket costs since they claim Mercedes will reimburse you any out of pocket repairs made. Either way, it was a very nice surprise. I don't have any plans of selling my 03 E55 anytime soon.

Wow in true Mercedes fashion roll out the extended warranty after most people have likely fixed this issue themselves. I just received my letter in the mail but of course have already handled the issue. I had been trying to get it addressed for the longest while it was under the original extended warranty but of course they needed the malfunction light and once that showed up I was about 4 months out of warranty. They offered me 15% off at the time which was nothing compared to the big bill and I ended up fixing the issue by having my indy simply change the pump alone which actually wasn't too costly. Good news for anyone that hasn't had this changed yet though because it WILL happen.

I had mine in the shop twice for this issue a few years ago which ultimately ended up in a pump change. I have called and they are going to call me back. I am expecting to get reimbursed approximately $2100.

Experience with SBC 25 year warranty on brakes

Hello All, I am new to the forum and thought that I would share my experience with the new extended warranty on the SBC brake system. I have a 2006 CLS 500 and had the experience of the red flashing light and limited or no braking power. I had received the letter from Mercedes Benz, USA about the extended warranty. I took my car to the local dealer and had them do a diagnostic. They determined that the accumulator was bad and needed to be replaced. The good news was that the part was going to be covered under the extended warranty; however, they did not have the part in stock at the dealership. They had to order it from the factory in Germany. Now the bad news is the part is on back order at the factory and has no delivery date. That was nine days ago, my car is still sitting in the dealers garage awaiting parts. I spoke with a service representative from Mercedes Benz, USA and the best they could do is confirm the information that the dealer was telling me was in fact correct and they did indicate that they had escalated the status; however, that still did not get me a delivery date. They said I should check back with the dealer next week and see what the status is. I will update you as I get news.

FCPEuro.com has these IN Stock for $82. I replaced the one on my 03 E55 . I did use the factory diagnostic tool to shut down and bleed the system after install. Fairly easy to do. You may want to investigate having another shop perform the repair and weigh the cost of having your car out of commission for a unknown length of time over something this simple to repair.

Just an fyi, anything related to SBC that makes your car inoperable entitles you to a loaner. I have just replaced my SBC pump and they had the car for 3 days, due to a missing seal. Once I have asked for a loaner, they gave it to me instantly, but they would not offer it themselves. Upon further questioning, appears that MB of USA has instructed dealers to provide loaners based on this issue. That was my experience, at least .YMMV.

Just an update, picked up my car last week after 14 days in the shop. They did replace the accumulator and tested and bled the system. It all works well again, no lights and plenty of stopping power. The best part was that it was all covered under the extended 25 year warranty.

John, was the work done at a dealership? I had the work done last October at my import mechanic's shop, where he used after market ABS hydraulic assembly. At the time, I didn't realize I was eligible for it to be paid for or I would've just taken it to the dealer. They are telling me there is $0 reimbursement bc it was done with rebuilt parts.

Unless you have received the letter, I would say that our Northern neighbors are not covered.

What to expect if SBC brakes fail?

My 2006 cls500 has 59,000 miles and no braking problems yet. When the system fails what can I expect to happen? No brakes at all? Very hard pedal but it will still stop ? Will I be able to limp to dealer? Thanks, I live in fear of this failure.

Rarely do you lose total braking. Usually just a warning light on the dash but worst case the pedal travel goes to the floor and it takes a while to slow down. I've never actually seen an SBC completely lose all braking but I suppose it's possible.

Actually I have lost complete braking power.. I was in the driveway and the car headed towards the street, I was able to stop using the foot brake. It depends from case to case, but it scared the bejesus outta me. Drove straight to the dealership after this.

1984 300TD/2006 CLS55/04 E320 wagon/05 CDI crashed :(
My 2005 E320 CDI had the red warning while pulling out of my driveway and I had next to zero braking power. This was about 4 months ago. I called the local Palm Beach MB dealer and they towed my car in, changed the SBC pump and gave me a loaner. (2019 C class!) No charge for anything. Fantastic service and the brakes were fixed. I never go to the (st)ealer otherwise.

Good news - Canadians are covered! Here's my recent experience:

Driving downtown, I got the dreaded "Brake Defective, Stop Vehicle" warning, accompanied by plenty of aggressive beeping. In addition, I had the ESP and BAS warnings, as well as an ABS light and parking brake light on. Not to forget the diminished braking ability. It was intense. I assumed my SBC had reached the actuation threshold, so I called MB Canada who ran my VIN and confirmed my SBC replacement would be covered free of charge. Woot! I took my car to the local MB dealer who hooked it to STAR. This is where things got interesting. STAR didn't throw the code I expected for exceeding the actuation threshold. Instead, it threw a code for a faulty pressure accumulator. MB claimed this was different than the SBC code and therefore, they wouldn't cover it under the SBC warranty. Frustrating, yes, but not a big deal - the pressure accumulator is available on FCP Euro for $87.50. I ordered it, MB put it in in an hour, and I was back on the road.

Soooo, in the end mine was NOT covered because my issue was specific to the accumulator and I am still within the SBC's actuation threshold, BUT, MB Canada did confirm my SBC would be completely replaced once that threshold is passed.

I hope this helps someone out there. If your SBC goes and you're in Canada, call MB Canada first! You're welcome

Which city are you in Canada? Just in case my dealer doesn't know about this.
