Talking When will this beauty be available?!?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are still trying to decipher the MB websites and DOG guides that have been posted online here.

I just have to say....OMG....The CLS 450 4matic is the PERFECT replacement for my wife's Audi A5. BIG upgrade for her and a really nice vehicle for ME TOO!

We have been Porsche aficionados for a bit but to be honest I showed her a picture of this car and she was VERY excited. She is not a Porsche Panamera fan, I am but this will be her car, OMG!

We were not able to go into the dealer this weekend but I would LOVE any info that you all have on this "beauty"....my wife's term, not mine! BUT this looks like something we are almost 100% on board with it!

Not entirely sure what we can compare it to but if you have suggestions let us know. Literally, this might be it for us!

Thanks in advance and if we have to wait....we will but she and I are "smitten" with it!

Pop

PS...again if there are comparable ones let us know so we can at least see what is out there.

W213 Night Edition 220d. (ML250 SLK350AMG)
The 450 CLS has just launched here in Australia. There will be a 350 later this year as well as the 53 model. I believe other markets like Japan get a 220d.
It will be a step up from your wifes Audi A5 because it is the next class of car up in terms of size too. I think the Audi competitor for this would be the A7. I'm not sure if you get that in your market.
What does the acronym DOG mean?
The seats are very comfortable and if you're going to get one of the first ones, i suggest that you get it with the Edition 1 pack as it has a handsome copper coloured detail in the seats as well as others. It will be available on the 450 and the 350 here.
There is not much difference in the AMG pack on the 450 (std here) to say an Avantgarde/Exclusive line (overseas markets).
The Australian brochure is here https://www.mercedes-benz.com.au/pas...e-brochure.pdf

Happy hunting at the dealer.

2019 CLS53
Seems there is now a USA recall of the 2019 C257/CLS series. The cars have been received and have been at the various US ports for some time now. Mercedes has announced a delay in releasing these. If you Google CLS 2019 Recall you can read about the delay. Seems some late 2018 E-Class cars and all the new 2019 CLS series are being held at the ports until the issues can be resolved. Not sure about other countries outside the US, but it seems the key aspect of the recall is the occupancy sensor in the front passenger seat not working correctly and potentially causing a safety issue if a child seat is in the front passenger seat and the occupancy sensor does not retard the airbag deployment in such situations.

I've been told the new release date in the USA is delayed and is now in a TBD state.

Any update as to when the CLS450 will arrive at dealers? I know the CLS53 will be after that, but at least the CLS450 would give me an in person look at the styling.

I would like to know the same. I think this car is going to be incredible. Are you doing the 53 for sure?

The CLS53 will likely be beyond what I want to spend on a car at this point, but I will definitely be interesting the CLS 450 if the drive is sportier than the equivalent E450.

I drove the 450 CLS yesterday..was amazing..I kinda thought it'd drive like a E450, but the new inline six engine w/EQ boost was linear, powerful, smooth and amazing..the car handled real well also..

2019 CLS53
There have been hundreds of them in the port of Atlanta and Long Beach just sitting. There is a recall on the front passenger seat due to the baby seat sensor not being calibrated correctly. It’s also assumed there is some kind of emission issue keeping the car from being formally accepted by DOT. MB is playing it’s cards close to the vest, but I’m told until DOT allows the cars to be “approved” they can’t enter the country other than some sample vehicles scattered around being used for training that are unregistered and allowed in under a rule in the import laws that allow some of these to enter in the same way some cars can come in for trade shows and stuff. In any case, MB seems to have thought they’d get the DOT approval last week, but that didn’t happen. I guess at this point a lot of paper is shuffling around trying to get the car approved for the US market while they stack up at the ports waiting to get in to dealers.

Yeah the salesman I talked to said that very same thing, he blamed it on the new engine and the certification process. I really don't even care, it's irrelevant to me lol. I just want to see, drive, build and price the CLS450. MBUSA should be ashamed of themselves for not having it up for builds on their site at this point. Having that 2018 CLS still online for building your own is specious.

You can still build it using the DOG. I built mine back at the end of May using the DOG. The base price is unknown, but most of the options are priced in the DOG. My build worked and the order was placed and all is good. The DOG is very accurate and I just built mine on a spreadsheet and gave it to the logistics ordering coordinator at my dealership and a few days later I got a PO and a manufacturing slot. I think the base 53 will be right at $100K plus whatever DOG listed options you want to add - and the DOG options are mostly priced and accurate. Sure, the online build tool isen’t there, but building it using the DOG is pretty easy.

Btw, one more little fun tool. I used chrome with google translate built in and went to the German mb site where you can build the car, see the finishes and read about all the options. There is a UK website too all in English as well as Australian, but lots of options in the Americana market are not offered on the Australian and UK versions. German website is the closest in available options to the DOG so using google translate it worked pretty well Building the car and understanding all the options. I then built the car on a spreadsheet after that with all the options and qualifiers and pricing I’m the DOG and my dealer ordered it from that spreadsheet. I did some price conversions from the international CLS websites and I’m pretty sure the base 53 will be $100k or so. The worldwide CLS models are not optioned like the US CLS models so you can’t really price convert the non-US model pricing to get a US price. Math does not convert easily given the engine, trim and standard feature differences between the different models of the CLS around the world already released and being sold.
