HPDE advice for newb
Treated myself to a GTS in April of this year (step up from my RS5). I love it.
Have a friend who convinced me to take it to a performance driving experience (instructor led track day) at texas world speedway 2 weeks ago. Now I'm hooked. I've been looking at tons of upcoming dates to go run. Graduated out of green in one day.
Anyway, I'm a complete newb and want to know what I need to know if I want to make this a 4-5x a year thing (more maybe).
I already noticed that the stock supersports are great tires, but even having a novice like me pushing it as far as I was comfortable, chewed up the tires and chunked them a fair amount. Im guessing I used up 1/3 of the tread life with two days of lapping. 12 20-minute sessions. The tires are still fine for street driving but i decided to just get a dedicated set of track wheels and rubber. (purchased a set of OEM wheels on eBay, deciding between cupsport 2 or trofeo r rubber)
Advice?
-things to take into account, the wheels and tire package from Mercedes will replace ANY worn tire thats mounted on the OEM wheels. I've heard they will replace any wheel mounted on the car but you might get pushback.
What do I need to consider or remember?
How often to check fluids and whatnot? When?
Car has 2330 miles on it.
I've heard bleeding brake lines is a thing, do i need? I don't have CCB package but even without it the instructor said the car has the most impressive non racer braking he has seen in eons.
Im open to any and all advice. I love to learn about what i hope will by my fun new hobby.
Sorry for the length
"...the wheels and tire package from Mercedes will replace ANY worn tire that's mounted on the OEM wheels" Nope. Mercedes Benz will NOT replace your tires unless damaged by road hazard. You can't wear them out time trialing them and then take them in for replacement. Wheels they'll replace or repair unless oddball stuff that would be covered under your regular insurance plan. Details are here
