Paint rubbing off side view mirror arm
while doing a quick detail of my car,i noticed the paint of the black mirror arm on the drivers side was scuffed on the top surface. When i looked closer it is where the mirror housing pivots when it folds in and out.
Has anyone seen this? Now i have a bare spot. Do i paint it and polish or ignore it. When the mirror is in use, it is covered by the housing

There is no way this should be happening; the tolerances are too close causing the rubbing. We had the exact same thing on my wife’s old GL. The mirror housing was replaced and never happened again.
They’ll take care of you I’ve no doubt

Whenever i Park , i always gold the mirrors in. It keeps them closer to the vehicle outof harms way . You can’t see it when the mirror is out.

I checked mine and it appeared there was a wear mark. Upon further inspection, it was a line of dirt/dust. It came off with a warm damp rag, with some light rubbing. It apparently gets trapped under there from driving. Only visible when the mirrors are folded in, which means it could easily be missed during a detail. It seems to me if it was wearing, there would be some sort of noise from the friction of the two surfaces rubbing/scraping together when the mirror folds in. You might want to look closer and give it a good wiping. Either way, it is a warranty item for sure. MB will order in a new mirror and simply replace it.

I have the mirrors programmed to always fold when I lock the car as well. Will check when I get home from work if there is a dirt mark.
