2018 ECU RECALL
I JUST received notice of a ECU reprogramming recall since the ECU wasn’t robust and may cause emissions problems. The reprogramming will take 45 min. Has anyone done this ? |
I had an ECU update done yesterday. They didn't say what it was for other than my VIN pulled up as there was one available. Most likely could be for this perhaps.

cutter is just you, vin 1 of 1
:) |
I was ready to ship mine off to Eurocharged. I assume the MB flash would wipe the new ECU tune? |
Applies to a small batch of new cars, yes. Get it done before you have the tune applied or it will erase it, yes.
|
no notice as of yet for me...
|
No recall for me either after checking mail yesterday.

I just got the notice. Let me quote the language used and then give you my translation.
The notice says: "Daimler . . . has determined that on certain Model Year 2017-2018 AMG GT-class (190 platform) vehicles, the engine control unit (ECU) software may not be sufficiently robust. As a result, certain emissions limit values could be exceeded." "We've learned that a lot of owners are circumventing the ECU software values and that we have no way of finding out and, if necessary, voiding warranties. So we want you to bring your Model Year 2017-2018 AMG GT-class (190 platform) vehicle in so that we can reprogram the ECU so that we can know if you overwrote it in the past or overwrite it in the future." |
My emissions are most definitely exceeded. |

The car already has remote diagnostic capability. They could easily make it so whenever the M/E is touched it reports remotely. They don't need you to bring it in just to make sure you aren't tuning it, if you damage the car from a tune, they will know.
