F1 safety car

I love watching the GTR as the F1 safety car! Hamilton just won the Monaco Gran Prix in a Mercedes and Botas was third. Great race and Mercedes leads the way!

Great Race! It was a 78 lap parade with impossible overtaking. Verstappen was the only reason to make it watchable. Now the Indy 500 was a race.

I noticed that they switched to the 2020 GTR in the previous Spanish GP. However, no GTR PRO.

With pretty amazing tire management by Hamilton. Did you see what they looked like, at the end?

I agree he did well managing his tires but that was mostly clag he picked up during the cool down lap.

I'm glad Lewis won. Any other driver may well have lost the lead to Mad Max, although Monaco is such a terrible track to try and pass on that Danny R. won last year with the car way down on power.

I'm of the opinion that Monaco needs to be replaced on the schedule. A two hour single file race does nothing for this, multi decade F1 fan/watcher.

Hamilton went 78 laps on a 50 lap tire! He was wanting to put but thetold him just keep going! They were right. Even with his tires going away he had more power to keep the wolves off him. That’s why Mercedes is winning, power!

Monaco is not about putting the power down. Hamilton made it impossible for them to pass him on those narrow streets.

Last year's winner Ricciardo held em off for the last two-thirds of the race while running on only 7 cylinders.

Almost positive they were overstating their concerns with tire wear. Old F1 trick to keep the competition off guard

Frankly I’m amazed that he was running on 7 cylinders as the engine is a V6.

He actually lost the hybrid portion of the engine so was down about 150hp iirc.

Hamilton drove defensively after his pit. There was nothing brilliant about it, he just blocked Max at every opportunity. For 2/3 of the race the top 4 cars were separated by 3-4sec. There’s only one DRS zone and a handful of places to even attempt a pass. I was there this past weekend - it was a total bore. They should either ditch the race or turn it into a time trial/attack with results ranked by lap time - allow team strategies like drafting, wring the cars out for max power, DRS always on with full hybrid power, etc. They’ve got to do something to mix up F1, especially at Monaco, because they’re losing the plot.

Good to see some F1 guys on the board here. There is more and more sentiment from fans (not the drivers and teams) to drop Monaco. I still like it, and it remains F1’s crown jewel. The last 4 -5 races have been nerve-racking and interesting to me. 2019 drama with Lewis’ *****ing and tires, and Max, 2018 drama with Ricciardo’s power unit and his redemption win, 2017- OK no drama but a Ferrari 1-2, 2016 Red Bull’s pit stop drama that loss Ricciardo the race, and 2015 with Lewis’ strategy call drama to pit from the lead for tires gifting the race to the arch-rival/teammate Nico....

Love seeing the Safety Car out there. However, Merc should try to coach Lewis to stop saying “the Safety Car is too SLOW” during full course yellow’s. Blame the driver.

I have to agree and always get a kick out of Bernd wringing the safety car out for all it’s worth whilst the rest of the pack are doing their utmost to keep temperatures in their tyres, brakes etc behind him! Ours are truly powerful fast cars and yet a 1.6 litre turbocharged 6 can make our cars performance look like an average compact!

Go Lewis! Perhaps 2019 will put him one closer to Schuey’s record...
