If you mean an OBD2 scanner, I’d think that any decent Bosch scanner would work as long as it is for the correct model year. Originally Posted by Gordon9898

I was thinking about getting the icarsoft i980
Just waiting for their reply to confirm it is compatible
Anybody use it?

Hi ,I was considering an icarsoft i980 too, however I have since been advised to go for the newer icarsoft MB V1.0 which is compatible with my Amg Gts.
It depends on what you want it to do, most scanners under $500 are just basic, they will clear simple codes, but that is about it.
I just ordered an Autel MaxiSys MS906BT because it is capable of a whole lot of stuff, including oil reset on my wife's Cayman for example which can't be reset without a full service diagnostic scanner, plus TPMS and all kinds of other stuff. I thought of getting a basic scanner, but opted for a full function one, Downside is it costs $1099, but in scanners you get what you pay for. I already had an iCarsoft MBII which works quite well on a few Mercs we have, but as I have other car brands too, I opted for one that does all brands. So I'm hoping the new Autel one works well.
I use MAC tool products, but they are for shops cost thousands, and you have to buy modules, but I have a lot of cars (all are modified so they never go back to the dealers).

I have the icarsoft mb2 scanner. For the price it’s good.

I have the icarsoft MB V2 but don't see a way to scan the AMG GT with it, it appears to just want to do ODBII scans, have you seen anything different ?Originally Posted by Katie22

Yes you have to go to icarsoft and do the update I had the same issue till I did the update. You have to remove the card in the scanner and install it in the red holder of that came with the bag for the scanner. You then install the red thing into a computer USB port and do the update.

Just depends on what you want to do. If it's just to read and clear codes, I don't see the reason the spend the money on an expensive OBD2 scanner. I have a $30 one off Amazon that works fine.

so you can select AMG GT now in the menu after the update ? Could have sworn I updated it but I'll check it again...Originally Posted by Katie22

That is absolutely correct. The gt will appear in your selections list after update. Like I said the update was a file I had to download from icArsoft and the install it on the sd card for the icarsoft.

I was just shopping around and I contemplated to go this way: What about a Mercedes Xentry system: MB SDConnect C5 Start Diagnosis.

Yea you get that you got the REAL thing.

Well is it? Or is it a Chinese knock off? I wish somebody could confirm we are good with this setup. A good system is gold for those who work the cars themselves (like me).

We’ll RT you would be buying a tablet wiTh all the same software the dealer uses. It might not be completely up to date so perhaps that is one thing to check. Also like WIS, EPC, MSS, which I have it probably has a learning curve to use. WIS is amayzing but it took me some time to learn to find things correctly.

Yes, I have WIS and EPC and it works well. I am just worried about the quality of the electronics as I *believe* these are knockoffs. I guess I might be the one telling all of you how things will go. Originally Posted by Katie22

Well I understand and if I were making my living on fixing cars I would buy the best but if I’m not making my living on fixing cars I would be OK with this. It’s kind of like going to Harbor freight some of the stuff they have there works really good for a homeowner.

i bought Icarsoft Mb2 which is more advanced , it gives deep scanning & DTC codes for engin , gearbox, Canbus & Abs but what is the use of those generated codes are generic and don’t correspond to Mercedes service manual...?
you can search the codes on internet but results will be general and not specific
check codes like 5001 and 5945 and you will get results describing issues with ABS module or ABS sensor or Rare left brake sensor or front brake sensor ... how you will know which one is related to your problem ?
not to mention that it will never give you the part number of the damaged part so you can google it and buy it !
unless there is an online manual where you can convert these codes to Mercedes Service codes I think those OBD scanners are useless !
good luck

It has worked out very well. I used it on 3 different Mercedes including my GT-S and it provides very comprehensive diagnostics, with a sub menu for each function group. For example on my GT-S I discovered a code related to the speaker system and gave the info to my dealer which led them to find a fault with one driver element which they replaced under warranty. Haven't had many issues with my GT-S so not may codes have shown up. Very useful for resetting TPMS and oil change minder on my wife's Cayman 718 too, and found an exhaust valve code on my 2019 Nissan GT-R. You get 1 year of software update support, and I just did my last free upgrade. I don't think I will need a subscription until I buy a much newer car.Originally Posted by hachiroku
