Brake job cost?

Been looking into picking up a gts and was surprised at the cost for front and rear rotor and pad replacement with steel brakes. Over 7k?!? Are you guys going aftermarket when needing to replace the rotors and pads?

I would get the brakes replaced at an independent shop versus the dealership using OEM parts that I’d purchased on-line from a cheaper source, or look to companies like AP Racing; Girodisc, etc. for replacement rotors, pads.

Why is the car needing the brakes replaced? Mileage on the car?

The gts I am considering has 50k miles on it. Was a daily driver for both previous owners. Averaging 1100 miles a month!

A local shop, blue ridge Mercedes in Atlanta is doing the work. They bought them out of Cali. I’ll find out Tuesday.

The front rotor part number is: MERCEDES-BENZ 2304211212 which is a Brembo 09.9313.33 and the exact same part and can be had for $367 on eBay today and also sold on AMZN or $732 for a set of 2 also on eBay.

See the data sheet linked here https://www.bremboparts.com/europe/e...isc/09-9313-33

The rear rotor part number is: MERCEDES BENZ 2224232012 which is a Brembo 09.B879.11 and you can find those for about $85 each or here https://www.brembostoreusa.com/produ...c190-r231-w205

See the data sheet linked here https://www.bremboparts.com/europe/e...isc/09-B879-11

As I track my AMG GT-S I have replaced the front rotors 3 times and I am about to replace the rear rotors.

Front pads are MERCEDES BENZ 0074206520
Rear pads are MERCEDES BENZ 0084201120

and you can get a set of front and rear OEM pads for $369 on eBay. There a several equivalents and you can get some from Pelican parts for example.

You can always get the girodics replacement disc kit which are 1300 for fronts and also 1300 for rears then then 700 for rotor alone.

Just as a side note the rear brake calipers, at least on my GTR, are not brembo they are TRW and the replacement caliper kit cost $500.

Are there any weight savings?

I did not properly weigh them but they are about the same weight just from picking them up with my hand. The girodisc rotors last ALOT longer than the stock ones do.

Wow great info here on the brembo rotors at almost 1/3 the cost of buying through Mercedes. Are these brembo rotors exactly the same or just the same dimensions but different vaning, drill pattern, etc. Interesting that no one seems to sell the disc ring separate from the hat. Isn't that supposed to be one of the benefits of these two piece rotors?

The front rotors are exactly the same as the ones fitted to my GT-S from the factory and they are floating with aluminum hats and iron rings and all assembled with hardware. I think they are so cheap at around $370 each it is not worth them supplying the rings separately. The same is also true for the Brembo iron rotors for the Corvette C7 Z06 which come as one piece. If you are buying Girodisc or AP Racing rotors which do last longer on track, then the cost is much higher and it makes economic sense to just get the rings and fit them yourself. But it takes quite a while to change out the rings on a Brembo style rotor with 10 bolts, nuts and clips, with a torque wrench, so it is much more efficient time wise to replace the entire unit. The rear ones from Brembo are different than the OEM one on the GT-S which are not Brembo, but they do not wear out quickly so no need to replace them often even if you track the car. So the rear Brembo ones are an equivalent to the $1200 each for the OEM rotors which is simply an insane price for a rotor that is not even floating.

Just an update here on the Porterfield pads and endless fluid. The shop got them directly from Porterfield in California.

Brakes grab much better and are more linear than the stock pads. Brake dust is greatly reduced and the car just feels great stopping no more mush feel in pedal. Highly recommended.

EDIT

forgot to mention that he blew out the intercoolers and there was one inch of sand/pebbles on each side. You should have this done with each oil change. He really couldn’t believe how much debris was in there, as a plume of dust. shot out.

Also, blue ridge Mercedes in Lilburn is a fantastic shop that specializes in a lot of older AMG’s. They have six hammers there which is incredible and a couple of widebodies which are so rare. They were doing some incredible rebuilds which make it a lot of fun just to walk around and see the projects that he’s getting from all over the US.

If there is one Achilles’ heel on my GT is that the rear rolls too much in hard corners and sweepers. Jonathan the owner, is reaching out to a race team on the GT for some part numbers on the rear sway bar’s and rear links. The rear sway bar is way up in there, but he thinks that there’s a simple solution with the Links.
