DEALER SERVICE IN SARASOTA

Would appreciate your input on which service mgr you use at Sarasota MB? Especially if you have an AMG GT. Thx in advance!

I work with Judy who is a Service Advisor. So far I have not needed to work with a Service Manager. Be aware that you can't schedule any service for your GT through their on line system. They have two Technicians that are certified to work on AMG GT vehicles and their schedules are not coupled to the on line system. So far I have be satisfied with the customer service and the work they have completed on my '18 GTC roadster.

Thank you, Judy is the one I've been working with, but she's retiring, so trying to find the next best one.

Please let me know who you end up with as a Service Advisor. I didn't know that Judy was retiring.

My friend is a sales person there and he hooked me up with Drew. Have a service scheduled for Wednesday for my 2020 GTR. Will let you know how it goes. I know a few others with GT’s who are very happy with the techs there.

OK….mixed reviews. Drew was very helpful but I think his tech let him down. Overfilled the oil, re-aimed headlights - much worse than before, asked for alignment check etc but I suspect it was not done. Did order a new CF center console lid as it will not close properly. Basically did the B service and ignored most of my other issues. Will be seeing another mechanic for my track needs.

Thanks for the update. Sorry the work didn't get done properly....Please keep us up to date on who you line up as your mechanic. Overfilled oil seems to be a common issue for dealerships. I had work done at the Tampa dealership and they overfilled my oil there as well.

The overfill warning seems to be a hyperactive electronic sensor on these cars. I bet if you pull the dipstick, the level is fine.

It only occurs on high g on ramps. I wonder how a dry sump system can truly be overfilled. It would seem that the level in the reservoir would not be the determining factor

Pretty sure we figured the overfill situation out. It is BC the tech is either not following the procedure on this platform or they don't know it. They shortcut the factory procedure which leaves a QT of oil in the cooler/lines. Then when they do follow the fill at 7L (7.4qts) they overfill by 1 qt.

I've personally changed the oil and followed the process to the letter and filled with 7.4 qts and the fill level was correct.

Here is a long thread on it, but to cut to the chase, start at post #31.

I've had techs measure out exactly what they took out, and put back in the exact amount, and still ended up with the error.

I have some feedback on the Sarasota dealership in general (I do not own a GT).
1. Had a few warranty items done without issue, but asking them to update vehicle software is a bit of a pain. The gymnastics that had to be gone though to get MBUX updated was frustrating.
2. Service A was a bit negative. Washer fluid cap was not seated correctly, battery cover was left open. More importantly, they scratched my AMG performance front seat! It now has a blemish on the bolster where it was previously pristine.

I worked with Shawn. He was great, but I think the service department is a bit overworked at the moment.

Thanks Eaton! I appreciate the Service Rep recommendation. I have had no issues with the AMG mechanics they solved an electrical issue on my AMG GTc that they could have easily thrown up their arms in defeat. Having a go to service rep is just as important.

Yes, this is an important point. Most dealers of any size are crazy busy in the back room these days. At my dealer in Scottsdale it took two weeks to get the car in, then it sat in the back lot for 4 more days before they could get the car in a bay for a simple 2 hour warranty item.

This is what is happening with the oil change overfills. Warming the oil up to 100*C takes 20 minutes whether the tech takes the car for a drive or lets it sit there and idle. That step alone is questionable how a busy shop accounts for that time and it's easy to skip. Or, they blow the 3 minutes to get the oil tank plug removed to quickly evacuate the oil (which creates the vacuum {suction} needed to pull oil from the cooler).

You need to be quite a gymnast to shut the engine off, raise the car, position the oil drain equipment and pull the plug...in 3 mins. Either way, they're missing the quart of oil sitting in the cooler/lines....then still add 7L on the fill.
