I've personally changed the oil and followed the process to the letter and filled with 7.4 qts and the fill level was correct.
Here is a long thread on it, but to cut to the chase, start at post #31.

I've had techs measure out exactly what they took out, and put back in the exact amount, and still ended up with the error.
1. Had a few warranty items done without issue, but asking them to update vehicle software is a bit of a pain. The gymnastics that had to be gone though to get MBUX updated was frustrating.
2. Service A was a bit negative. Washer fluid cap was not seated correctly, battery cover was left open. More importantly, they scratched my AMG performance front seat! It now has a blemish on the bolster where it was previously pristine.
I worked with Shawn. He was great, but I think the service department is a bit overworked at the moment.

This is what is happening with the oil change overfills. Warming the oil up to 100*C takes 20 minutes whether the tech takes the car for a drive or lets it sit there and idle. That step alone is questionable how a busy shop accounts for that time and it's easy to skip. Or, they blow the 3 minutes to get the oil tank plug removed to quickly evacuate the oil (which creates the vacuum {suction} needed to pull oil from the cooler).
You need to be quite a gymnast to shut the engine off, raise the car, position the oil drain equipment and pull the plug...in 3 mins. Either way, they're missing the quart of oil sitting in the cooler/lines....then still add 7L on the fill.
