Maybe pose that question on bring a trailer. There's a GT that's for sale now and has the same problem.

I'm also getting this error on my 2017 GT S and it is hella frustrating, especially on long drives. I've been told by both the MB downtown Toronto dealership and a private shop mechanic that (in my situation) it's due to running an aftermarket AGM battery. They've also said this is likely why the auto stop-start doesn't work.

The dealership quoted ~$2700 CAD for an OEM battery+labour, before taxes (smh). Though, if you're in the US it looks like you might be able to buy the battery at a discount from an mbparts website (reference link).

Side note: Before putting the car into storage over winter, the warning would pop up during any drive longer than 10-15 minutes. Since pulling it out of storage (where it was connected to a trickle charger), its taken ~2 weeks of daily drives for the warning to once again start showing up.
