Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 won the 2026 24h Nürburgring
About time. Last time was 2016 for the same race. Good send off before the '27 new car.
Have personally met Maro, Fabian, Maxime and Luca. All great drivers and very cordial to fans and alike. Kind of glad it's this AMG team that finished and won the race.

Went back and watched the first 6hrs and Verstappen caught air and his right side tires came down in the wet grass. Could have ended up in tears. Well, much earlier than the eventual mechanical.

I was rooting for the Aston-Martin as they use the AMG GT M178 engine. They were initially placed in second but were judged to be speeding in a slow zone and subsequently placed third.

If you watch some of Verstappen's in car videos during the race, you will notice just how hard he pushes his AMG GT3. I had a feeling he was going to have mechanical issues further along in the race. One video in particular shows him battling with a yellow Porsche GT3 RS, he drives super hard and offline at times applying 100% pressure throughout the video, even causing the Porsche to get a bit squirrelly. There are moments in the straights where he maxes out his car's top speed/rev limits for a sustained time. I know these cars are built for it, but he is such an unbelievable driver that I feel that the engineers needed (if possible) to raise the car's limits to handle his exceptional hard driving style.

Goodness me, what a scare at 7:13!! The GT3 RS driver gave the GT3 a little nudge and sent it into the barrier!
Its also crazy how they take those two fast corners after the long main straight....

Just a quick note. This race used to be broadcasted live on youtube for free, no geoblocking at all. This year though, it is blocked in US and Canada because of you know who. VPN is your friend. I reckon next year it will be blocked as well.

The next 24hr race is the granddaddy at LeMans on June 13-14. As part of WEC you will see Hypercars as well as GT3 cars if that is of interest.
