Is it okay to spray Simple Green and spray it off with garden hose?

That's what I did, but I didn't have much choice. I had to clean off 1/2 quart of oil that "spilled".
I wouldn't let it sit very long though becuase it MAY oxidize aluminum.
BTW: I used this method for 7 years on my Ford Ranger. The last time I cleaned the engine the alternator bearings started squeeling as if they ran out of lube. I don't know if this was a result of the washings or just a 90,000 mile failure.
