Rain??

Long story short, I usually use my girls car when the weather is crappy out, and keep my cars in the garage, well she is on a road trip this week, and I am busy as hell and wash my own cars, BUT weather calls for rain til friday!! How bad would it be to leave rain on my car for 3-5 days without washing it? I have 20's with a chrome lip,and am very **** about keeping it clean. Is there a point in washing it in the garage then just driving out into the rain? I just dont won't rain spots on my rims, or paint, and have never had this problem in the past!! Thanks guys..

Typically rain in of itself is not too harmful, but there certainly is exceptions. Rain followed by sun can certainly be dangerous with watermarks, etc. I'd recommend applying a good of sealant and or wax on the paint and wheels to help ensure the water rolls off and is far less likely to etch in to the clear coat.

Thanks I just had my black car detailed 2 months ago, so I guess a little rain on the paint for a few days won't be that bad right? I see your from NY, so when do you think the best time is to throw a layer of wax on the car to prepare for winter. Any tips or products for washing in the winter, I hate having someone else wash my cars. Thanks

Typically a natural carnauba wax will last 2 weeks to 2 months. A sealant will commonly last 3 - 6 months. Therefore depending on what type of product was applied to your paint you may or may not have protection on it. For protection I typically will apply two+ coats of a sealant in late November and then apply at least one coat of wax on top of the paint. I typically apply two coats of Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket and then put one coat of the Poorboy's World Natty's Red Paste Wax. I also may clay bar or polish the paint before depending on what I've done during previous details. I'll try and put more protection on the paint in probably Jan or Feb to just to make sure it's well protected.

Washing in the winter can be brutal at times. I wait until I get a somewhat warm day, hopefully above freezing. I wear a rubber glove under my wash mitt and wash quickly and bring the car in my heated garage ASAP. Unfortunately I don't have any great short cuts or wonderful products that make this much easier. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help you with.
