Waxing Wheels

There's probably a thread on this already but can anyone provide some input on waxing new wheels. Just bought a set of Carlsson 2/6 Brilliant Editions from Tire Rack for my C36. If they were one piece and entirely chrome or entirely clearcoted like my stock AMG Monos, I'd know what to do. Problem is, the Carlssons are two piece with a rather wide polished stainles stell lip. Should I just apply wax to the stainless or should I use something else????

Wheels

I'm very pleased using Zaino on my wheels. Cleaning brake dust is a breeze and weekly washings are easier.

If the lip part is stainless steel...I would think a good metal polish would be fine. I'm not sure something like Zaino would work on that portion. I like Wenol's metal polishes a lot.

most rims are clearcoated, even if polished lips, still clearcoated (at least factory MB wheels). Zaino works really well on them.

I agree; Zaino is all that touches my clearcoated wheels...MBdragracer says the lip is polished stainless steel though. Do you think a good metal polish would work Ali? I'm not sure if Zaino would bond to unclearcoated stainless steel.

Even though...

...I've Zaino'd my factory MB chromed wheels twice in the six months I've had the car, I'm getting a black speckling on them that does not come off with soap and water.

Any ideas??

I've had the same black spots on my C7 7-spoke wheels. To get rid of the spots, I clean them completely with soap/water, and then use Klasse All-In-One. This completely removes the spots with very little hassle, as well as coating the wheels with a wax-like (Acrylic) coating.

I'm defintely going to wax the clearcoated spokes of the wheel but these Carlssons also have a stainless lip (not clearcoated - don't think I've ever even seen stainless clearcoated before - not sure if you can clearcoat stainless). Anyway, perhaps I should just use a metal polish on the stainless and stick with the Zaino on the clearcoated sections of the wheels???

Thanks for everyones' input!

Great tip!

I've spent two hours claying the wheels this weekend and then putting a coupla coats of Zaino on em. No way am I gonna repeat this adventure in the near future, especially when the brake dust baked on specks occurred despite well Zaino'd wheels in the first place.

Thanks for the Klasse All-In-One tip!

I'd recommend calling the zaino technical support hotline. Metal polish may damage a clear coat if there is one.

sorry joe, I was afraid to recommend an abrasive due to the fact you have chrome wheels. Klasse all-in one sounds like a good idea, but dont use it too often. Maybe 3-5 times a year max.

Thanks Al

Another chunk of good advice, thanks Al!

I'll do it with my tri-ennial waxing. Spring/Start of summer, Start of fall, mid-winter.
