Cleaning Engine

OK, I'm just dying to know...all those used Mercedes-Benzs that I see on eBay always have very gleamingingly clean engine compartments....every nook and cranny is perfectly clean and glimmering shiny new.

How do the pros get it to look like that?

By using some kind of special cleaners with a pressure washer. My detailer won't tell me exactly what he uses, dagummit...Try asking this question in the detailing forum. I'm sure you will get some responses there.

I Use Simple Green...Works Great! Make Sure You Use Compressed air to dry off all the connections that may get water into them.To Avoid any Problems

I Use Simple Green, it works great, then i rub it down with some engline detailer, and I have heard of people using wd40 to pledge as the gloss.

I would use something like "Lexol Vinylex" to give you the deep shine as WD40 and others are too greasy and attract dirt. I dont know what they used on my car but by the time I got home from the 200+ mile trip the bay needed cleaning . Now it hardly gets dirty with Lexol.

I thought I was the only one who knew this secret! Check out Kragen/Checker Auto for specials on the stuff. I got a 2 for 1 deal about 3 months ago. The only problem was I had to buy them 2 at a time and then leave the store before buying the next 2. I really think the clerk was jerking me but who cares. I ended up with a case for half price. The only drawback to using it is the smell when it burns off the hotter parts. Makes me sick for a few minutes but then goes away. If you have a really dirty engine, steam clean it first and stay away from harsh chemicals. They can remove paint and damage plastics.
