Hi again,
I was wondering what products do y'all use for your cars?

I am thinking of doing wax, polish, detail, etc. Need some suggestions.

Also, if you were to let someone detail your car, how much do you think it would run you ($$$) ?

I've always preferred Meguiar's products for the most part - Smooth Surface Clay, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Paste Wax. I've also used Mothers FX Syn Wax with very good results, but I felt like the shine didn't last as long as the Meguiar's paste (The Mothers was liquid, that may explain the difference).

Detailing prices vary widely, but I have a price list here from a local shop that does good work, and they have packages ranging from $125 to $500 for a sedan. They do have a surcharge for conditioning leather, and hot water carpet extraction if required. If your paint is in bad shape and needs to be machine polished, most shops charge by the hour.

I have been using Griot's Garage products, griotsgarage.com for over 25 years. I have never been dissappointed with any of their products.

If you are going to compound and/or polish, you will need a random orbital polisher. For compounding (to remove scratches, swirl marks, orange peels, etc), use Mequiar's M105. For polishing, use Mequiar's M205. Compound first then polish. For the last step protection, I prefer a sealant instead of wax, like Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. For a wax, try Collinite 845. Both last for months with regular maintenance using Mequiar's Ultimate Quik Wax or Ultimate Quik Detailer.

The easiest thing to do is wash your car with Mequiar's Wash and Wax. Then apply a sealant or wax, then maintain weekly with detailer or spray wax. Apply sealant or wax every 3 months.
